Listeners might quibble over whether the 100 pieces collected here constitute precisely THE most relaxing classical music in the whole universe, but it can't be denied that this music is in fact mellow and relaxing, except for perhaps the Prelude to Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, which might get the blood pumping at its climax. The pieces are all instrumental and the tracks are weighted toward orchestral music of the Baroque, Romantic, and post-Romantic periods, although the Classical and Modern periods aren't entirely neglected, and there is some chamber music and keyboard music.

The Anthology of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is a transcription in sound of the concert-giving history of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, based upon radio recordings from the archives of Dutch Radio and Radio Netherlands World Service. Six decades of the 20th century are put under the spotlight in six boxes, each containing 14 CDs. We have chosen not only legendary performances under chief conductors of the KCO but also concerts led by countless guest conductors of both greater and lesser renown.

The 2007 festival certainly ran true to form - with composers as diverse as Mozart, Glinka, Messiaen, Schumann, Lutosławski, Ravel, Bartók and Beethoven - variety and discovery were as abundant as ever. No other pianist in the musical world nurtures and promotes emerging talent with the same level of personal commitment and belief as Martha Argerich. The results of the chamber music partnerships displayed on this release demonstrate the magic that is made when these professional friends are brought together by her unique artistic personality. This year’s recording also boasts a substantial solo spot from Martha herself, playing Schumann's Kinderszenen Op. 15. Amongst many other artists, this year’s set features EMI Classics-signed pianists Gabriela Montero and Sergio Tiempo and Virgin Classics inimitable cellist Renaud Capuçon.
