77-minute compilation of two long-unavailable classical LPs that Byrd recorded in 1958-60 for a Washington label. Byrd interprets courtly dances and folk songs of Spanish composers of the 16th century, and presents four longer (average track length: ten minutes) suites from the 17th century by the little-known Italian composer Lodovico Roncalli. It's a fine compendium of Byrd's talents as a virtuoso classical interpreter.

This album gathers highlights from Montserrat Figueras career for the Astrée, DHM, EMI and Alia Vox labels. 5 of the 35 tracks have already been reissued in a portrait album released in the 1990s by Astrée, La 'Voix de l Emotion'. Jordi Savall wanted to keep the same title for this much more comprehensive double album, in tribute to the late Montserrat Figueras, his wife and collaborator of 43 years. 35 year-career: 35 tracks a dazzlingly clear soprano voice, a line of the purest silk, as strong as it was delicate.

Narciso Yepes (November 14, 1927 – May 3, 1997) was a Spanish guitarist. Yepes was born into a family of humble origin in Lorca, southern Spain. His father gave him his first guitar when he was four years old. He took his first lessons from Jesus Guevara, in Lorca. Later his family moved to Valencia when the Spanish Civil War started in 1936. When he was 13, he was accepted to study at the Conservatorio de Valencia with the pianist and composer Vicente Asencio. Here he followed courses in harmony, composition, and performance…

This fascinating program focuses on the two most important eras for the guitar: Spain and the European Baroque. In Spain lays the origin of the guitar, where the vihuela - another guitar of the Golden Age, already equipped with six rows of strings - was to produce an immense corpus of great quality, often inspired by the Flemish polyphonists and plainchant. Many vihuelists considered their instrument as a perfection, "more perfect than the harp and the keyboard and also more difficult" and suggested it could exorcise evil spirits, thus giving it a transcendent quality much like the lyre of Orpheus or the zither from the Psalms of David.
