The forgotten superheroes of 20th-century black music, the leather-lunged blues shouters, dominated the US nightclub stages and R&B charts for half-a-dozen years or so following World War II, before being side-lined by the bourgeoning rock n roll storm in the early 1950s. Still considered a force with which to be reckoned in the US music industry of the mid-fifties, and still at the height of their vocal prowess, many of the biggest stars were granted one or two final shots to save their flagging recording careers during rock n roll s heyday - their Last Shout.

Mariah Carey has the most number-one singles for a solo artist in the United States (eighteen; second artist overall behind The Beatles), where, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, she is one of the best-selling female artists and sixteenth overall recording artist. In addition to her commercial accomplishments, Carey has earned five Grammy Awards, and is well-known for her vocal range, power, melismatic style, and use of the whistle register.

Dean Martin was an American singer, film actor, television star and comedian. One of the most popular and enduring American entertainers of the mid-20th Century, Martin was nicknamed the "King of Cool" due to his seemingly effortless charisma and self-assuredness. A member of the "Rat Pack," Martin was a major star in four areas of show business: concert stage/night clubs, recordings, motion pictures, and television. He was the host of the successful television variety program The Dean Martin Show (1965-1974), and subsequently The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts (1974-1985). Martin's relaxed, warbling crooning voice earned him dozens of hit singles. This collection contains all of the LPs in the Reprise catalog.

"Dolly My Baby" is the 1993 single by Jamaican dancehall artist William Maragh, known better as Super Cat. This was not on the original Jamaican pressing of his 1992 album Don Dada but placed on the American version as an extra song. It became a hit due to the remix featuring singer Mary J. Blige and rappers 3rd Eye, Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs, and an artist Combs just signed but hadn't finished an album yet, The Notorious B.I.G. Combs' rhyme style was on the "ruffneck" style which he completely changed soonafter. This would lead to a successful-yet-brief career for B.I.G., who was commonly known by some hip-hop fans as Biggie Smalls. This US CD5 features seven mixes of the song, including the original "reggae mix" and the more well known "Bad Boy Extended Mix".

Unearthing the music on our new collection, Classic Black & White Jazz Sessions, has been a dream for decades. Unlike most of our sets, the original masters of these sessions are not known to exist anymore. Confusion over who owned the copyrights and who owned physical recordings we could use as source material raised additional obstacles.
