The title track was an international chart hit, and became Diamond's 30th Top 40 hit in the U.S. The song peaked at #17 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, #14 on the Cash Box Top 100, and #7 on Record World. In Canada, it peaked at #15. The song was a much bigger hit on the Adult Contemporary charts, reaching #2 in the U.S. and spending two weeks at #1 in Canada.

Released at the dawn of the 1980s, „September Morn“ is very much an update of Neil Diamond's 1960s roots, with a (perhaps ill-advised) disco version of the Motown classic "Dancing in the Street" and a remake of his own "I'm a Believer," heard here complete with faux-reggae rhythm and synthesized steel drums. The album also looks to the past in cuts like producer Bob Gaudio's timeless "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" and the vintage blues song "Stagger Lee." But Diamond shows he's still a master of sentimental balladry in his delivery of songs like the title track and "The Shelter of Your Arms," with an almost chanson-like delivery that blends classic Tin Pan Alley schmaltz with French-style romance.

"I'm Glad You're Here with Me Tonight" is the 11th studio album by Neil Diamond, released on Columbia Records in 1977. It includes a solo version of the song "You Don't Bring Me Flowers". Diamond would score a #1 hit with a new version recorded as a duet with Barbra Streisand the following year. "I'm Glad You're Here With Me Tonight" was the second Neil Diamond album in a row to also garner a television special, which was broadcast on November 17, 1977. The television special received a Directors Guild of America award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Musical/Variety for Director Art Fisher, Associate Director David Grossman and Stage Manager Bob Graner. It was also nominated for three Emmy Awards. The special was a thematic and "behind the scenes" based program with interspersed live performances. It also features a pioneering segment with one of the earliest broadcasts of what would come to be known as a music video with its treatment of Diamond's song "Morningside".

Though now known mainly for his middle-of-the-road balladry, Neil Diamond started his career in the '60s as a Tin Pan Alley pro who turned out a string of ballsy, folk-rock-styled classic Top 40 singles that may come as a surprise to anyone who's grown up with the image of Diamond as a sensitive crooner and Vegas showman. This 2 CD set contains all of his hits, but it isn't quite the definitive package that its title suggests. His early Bang singles ("Cherry, Cherry," "Kentucky Woman," "Solitary Man") and his later Columbia material ("You Don't Bring Me Flowers," "America," "Heartlight") appear in their original versions. But his mid-period MCA/UNI hits ("Sweet Caroline," "Song Sung Blue," "I Am … I Said") are represented by live re-recordings from 1989 and 1992.

"Moods" is the 8th studio album by Neil Diamond, released by Uni Records in 1972. It contained the second of his #1 songs, "Song Sung Blue", and was something of a follow-up in style to the highly experimental "Tap Root Manuscript". Billboard praised "Moods" highly, saying it contained "brilliant, diversified material." This album, and its follow-up live album "Hot August Night", are generally acknowledged to be the two most important recording projects of Diamond's career in terms of defining his signature sound for the future. Within the music industry and among music professionals this is considered one of Diamond's better and more creative recordings. It received a Grammy Award nomination for Album of the Year for 1972.
