Raven’s 2010 two-fer combines Helen Reddy’s final two albums for Capitol Records: 1977’s "Ear Candy" and 1978’s "We’ll Sing in the Sunshine", both co-productions with Kim Fowley. Ear Candy qualifies as a genuine oddity in Reddy’s catalog, a record that finds the queen of Australian soft rock paired with the king of L.A. sleaze, Kim Fowley, and his henchman Earle Mankey, a pair who were just coming off of the teenage kicks of the Runaways.

All of the songs received a lot of airplay in its day but the most famous song on here is the beautiful "Moonlight Lady", sung by Gabby's son, Bla Pahinui. This CD was released 1991, remastered by Lee Herschberg.

Recording live at Los Angeles' Roxy club – then a showcase for many of the hottest acts in pop – was just the tonic that George Benson and his Breezin' band needed on this often jumping album. With unusually lively crowds (for a record-industry watering hole) shouting encouragement, the band gets deep into the four-on-the-floor funk and Benson digs in hard, his rhythmic instincts on guitar sharp as ever. The balance between vocals and instrumentals is about even – George's voice sounds more throaty and soul-oriented than before – and amid the new material, there is a revisit to a favored CTI-era instrumental, the lovely "Ode to a Kudu."

Interpretations of six “Pet Sounds” compositions are among the highlights of this celebration of Brian Wilson’s songwriting genius. It’s hard to believe 12 years have passed since “Pet Projects: The Brian Wilson Productions”, one of the first releases in our much-admired Producers series. Not before time, Wilson now joins such greats as Randy Newman, Laura Nyro, Goffin & King, Dan Penn, Bacharach & David, Jackie DeShannon and Serge Gainsbourg in our high-profile Songwriters series.

Two of Helen Reddy's 1974 albums, "Love Song for Jeffrey" and "Free and Easy", are combined onto one CD on this release, with the addition of historical liner notes and a couple of tracks from her 1978 album Live in London. Reddy was near the peak of her popularity in 1974, but although each album has a couple of hit singles, they're erratic works in which the singer flits uncomfortably between rock-influenced styles and more middle-of-the-road vocals.

The fifth volume in the perennially excellent Get Easy! series is arguably the strongest retrospective of sunshine pop ever compiled – spanning two CDs and 40 cuts, the set combs the vaults of labels like A&M, Verve, Philips, and MGM to capture the essence of late-'60s pop at its most musically ambitious. Inspired and arguably birthed by the Beach Boys, in particular their landmark Pet Sounds album, sunshine pop married radiant vocals harmonies and lush orchestral arrangements that wonderfully evoked a beatitude and poignancy often forgotten amidst the political and cultural turbulence of its era. There were some major hits of note from acts like the Association, the Turtles, and the Cowsills, but by and large sunshine pop remains largely a cult fascination, and this wonderful collection is the perfect place to hop aboard for both its hits and its rarities – virtually every song's a winner, but standouts include the Hobbits' "Sunny Day Girl," Spanky & Our Gang's "I'd Like to Get to Know You," the Twinn Connexion's "Oh What a Lovely Day," Van Dyke Parks' "Number Nine," and the The Fun and Games' "Topanga Canyon Road."

Claudine Longet's final A&M release bridges the gossamer pop of previous efforts and the fuller, more rock-inspired approach of her Barnaby label recordings. Producer/arranger Nick DeCaro proves a wonderfully sympathetic foil, creating a series of sweet, poignant backings perfect for Longet's girlish vocals. Criticizing her failings as a singer means neglecting her talents as a stylist, and DeCaro clearly understands how to get the most from her unique presence.
