Both the works on this recording were written during wartime. Debussy’s 1915 En blanc et noir, composed during a late creative burst, is his musical response to the horrors of World War I. Messiaen’s revolutionary Visions de l’Amen from 1943, written to be performed by the composer and his teenage pupil, Yvonne Loriod, is a profound religious meditation whose emotional intensity is overwhelming. The role of the two pianos is clearly divided. Melodic and expressive elements are confined to the second piano, Messiaen’s part, whereas all that is percussion, brilliance and rhythmic development is heard in the first piano, Loriod’s part.

The Belgian-Scottish band Stereo Grand is back with a new album due for release in autumn 2016 entitled “Somewhere A Silver Bullet Lies ». It’s been four long years since their last album “The Invisible Wall”, with singles “Stereo” and « Into Dust” filling the airwaves across the country. Stereo Grand’s first offering from the EP “I’m Coming Home”, gave us the classic “Yeah Yeah”, an instant radio hit, and the subsequent demand for live performances followed. From their debut album release in 2013, Stereo Grand toured non-stop until their self-imposed exile in 2015 to begin their follow-up record.

Célèbre pour son rôle d’agent artistique dans la série télévisée Dix pour Cent, l’acteur et réalisateur Nicolas Maury se lance dans la chanson. Un peu à la manière d’Isabelle Adjani en son temps – Adjani, à qui l’acteur rend un hommage mi moqueur mi respectueux sur la pochette de ce premier album drôle, classe et sensible. Maury est comédien, donc. Un fait qu’il n’essaie pas de camoufler, comme le montre À ma fenêtre le matin, interlude introspectif et parlé qui éclaire avec émotion le thème principal de l’album : tout comme Maxence/Jacques Perrin dans Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, Nicolas Maury part à la recherche de l’idéal masculin en chansons. Submergé de cordes hollywoodiennes oniriques et tragiques, l’album dessine petit à petit un personnage impliqué dans une quête à la fois désespérée et enivrante, autant passionné par les sentiments que par l’amour physique (Blouson noir, Avec lui).
