Notre Dame

Notre-Dame, Cathedral of emotions, the event compilation of the Masters of Notre-Dame de Paris, including several unpublished. 850 years of music in Notre Dame by The Master Notre-Dame de Paris, guarantor of a unique know-how in the world and an extraordinary musical heritage, and which radiates throughout France and the world.

Pâques à Notre-Dame is an album of Easter choral music performed by members of the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris, which provides training and performance opportunities for talented children, youth and adults.

The French composer and organist Thierry Escaich composed his Te Deum pour Notre-Dame for the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris; a hymn to the Cathedral’s resurrection, it is a large-scale work for children's choir, two mixed choirs and orchestra. One hundred and eighty singers and instrumentalists gave the work its first performance and recorded it in the prestigious building on 12 June 2025. Thierry Escaich was inspired by the Cathedral's thousand-year-old history and drew on many sources, beginning with the Bible but also including prestigious authors who had written about Notre-Dame such as Victor Hugo and Charles Péguy. According to Escaich himself, this Te Deum is a journey from the destructive flames of the conflagration to the fire of redemption. Escaich, who has been a co-titular organist of the Cathedral since 2024, also presents examples of his famous art of improvisation on the Cathedral's organ between each movement of the Te Deum. The work won universal acclaim at its first performance, with some journalists describing it as the great French oratorio that we have been awaiting since the beginning of the 21st century (Le Figaro).

On 15 April 2019, during Holy Week, a fire broke out in Paris’s Notre-Dame Cathedral. Just before 7pm, smoke appeared above the roof of the world-famous landmark. The fire had started in the attic underneath the spire during mass, but there were delays in discovering it, and then evacuating the building.

Pâques à Notre-Dame is an album of choral music for Easter, performed by members of the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris, which offers training and performance opportunities to talented children, teenagers and adults. Spanning six centuries and the musical cultures of France, Italy and Germany, the album includes the last polyphonic work to be performed at Notre-Dame before fire devastated the great cathedral amidst preparations for Easter in 2019. The conductor is Henri Chalet, director of the Maîtrise, and the organist is Yves Castagnet, who also composed three of the works on the programme, recorded in the basilica of Sainte-Clotilde, another major church in Paris. As Henri Chalet says: “We know that Notre-Dame will rise again.”
