Central to his repertory are the great works of J S Bach, Mozart, Reger and Liszt.

"…CPO's production is exemplary; informative and detailed notes on the organ and music are given in German, English and French, and the cover reproduces an attractive landscape painting. A most enjoyable recording of two excellent but rarely-performed Widor works, which will delight organ and orchestral lovers in equal measure." ~sa-cd.net

We can begin by stating that this CD is the result of the great empathy, sympathy, synergy, friendship and esteem between three people, who are truly friends with each other. To tell the truth, this new recording project was not scheduled for this year 2023, even if the idea of a project to be carried out together had been boiling in the pot for some time. The author of the project, as well as the creator of the amazing interpretations, is my dear friend Ivan Ronda, organist of international level, already known since long ago in the organ music environment for his peculiar interpretations of great composers of the past such as: Bach, Händel , Mozart, Reger, up to recording projects dedicated entirely to composers of contemporary organ music. The title of the CD is “Organ Fireworks”, since from the list of titles it can be seen that most of the compositions performed here have a festive, solemn, playful, but at the same time meditative character. Another characteristic that immediately emerges is that the musical form of “Variations” prevails in the CD, considered not only in the more traditional style of the term, but also in a broader and more modern conception. This is a record that “winks” at two distinct musical environments, which throughout history have indeed had their independence and evolution, but at the same time have often intertwined with each other.

The Buxtehude Opera Omnia series is steadily progressing. It is with great pleasure that I present to you the final part of Dieterich Buxtehude’s organ works. Now that the task of recording all the organ and harpsichord works has been completed, the astounding quality of this music has become evident. Naturally, organists play Buxtehude’s works with relative frequency. However, only a dozen or so of his works are actually performed regularly.

Taking advantage of two great historical instruments (the Giacomo Bazzani e Figli, 1832, organ of San Lorenzo in Cavazzana (RO) church, and the Gaetano Callido 1797, organ of the Beata Vergine del Rosario in Polesella (RO) church), in this double CD organist Alessandro Perin offers a significant collection of the works by the Paduan composer Gaetano Valeri, a leading exponent of the late eighteenth century Italian keyboard music scene. Remaining anchored to the 'galante' style, Valeri’s sonatas are characterised by great inventiveness, singability, rhythmic variety and formal elegance, and naturally enhance the variegated tonal characteristics of the Italian seventeenth-century organs. The release also features Roberto Loreggian, performing on the world premiere recording of the two four-hands works, Ouverture ridotta a quattro mani and Suonata a quattro mani.

Christopher Herrick continues the Scandinavian leg of his endlessly popular Organ Fireworks series with a disc of music performed on the great organ of Västerås Cathedral in Sweden. The programme is, as ever, a tempting pot-pourri of pieces from around the world, some popular, some rare; some light-hearted and some serious, and demonstrating all facets of virtuoso writing for the organ.

In his own lifetime (1839–1901), Joseph Rheinberger was more sought after as a professor of organ and composition than he was recognized as a great composer. His roll call of students at the conservatoire in Munich was long and impressive, including Humperdinck, Wolf-Ferrari and Furtwängler. However, Rheinberger produced a significant catalogue of sacred music in particular, concentrated on choir and organ. Sometimes unfavourably compared to Brahms, he is more usefully regarded as a south-German Fauré – for the gentle contours of his melodies and the softly rounded quality of his choral writing. The principal work on this new album is the Mass for four-part men’s chorus which he composed in 1898, and which has become a staple of the male chorus repertoire around the world. By no means as staid or sober as its scoring might suggest, the Mass is a work of resonant beauty and sweetness, a concise and elegant demonstration of Rheinberger’s melodic gifts and his embodiment of Catholic values in the secular musical culture of late 19th-century Germany.

The evocation of the night, the predilection theme of the German Romanticism, has inspired many poets and musicians. From Weihnachten (Christmas night) to Sphärenmusik (music of the spheres) by way of the Abendstern (evening star) and the Symphonic Chorale of Karg-Elert Nun ruhen alle Wälder (all the woods are now at rest) also subtitled Abendlied, the night is alternately here the promise of the good news on Christmas Eve, a metaphor of the eternal sleep or the dawn of a new day in another world. The program of this disc, emblematic of the Germanic Post-Romanticism, is directly inspired by the authentically preserved German aesthetic of the Great Organ Link of Mirepoix Cathedral. Heard are some rare and original works from Sigfrid Karg-Elert where the organ, the violin and the voice are blending with each other.

Johann Ludwig Krebs (Buttelstedt, 12 October 1713 – Altenburg, 1 January 1780) was a favourite pupil of the great J.S. Bach (who regarded him particularly highly, punning on their two surnames declaring Krebs ‘was the only crayfish in his stream’) and a supremely talented inheritor of the composer–organist tradition of the Northern European Baroque. As a member of the last generation of these musicians, he lived in a time of marked shifts in taste, during the rise of the empfindsamer (sensitive) style, with its preference for balance and grace over the high baroque’s interwoven contrapuntal lines and chromatic harmony.
