Lilliput Orkestra is a french jazz quartet from Toulouse. Lilliput plays only original compositions mixing jazz, brass band mood, free improvisation and grooves.
Recorded at the stunning Harpa Concert Hall by the Reykjavík Orkestra, conducted by Viktor Orri Árnason, the new album, Orchestral Works, celebrates Gabríel Ólafs’ first five years as a recording artist and professional composer. Thirteen of the compositions are presented here in brand new orchestral arrangements with works drawn from Gabríel’s solo albums Absent Minded, Solon Islandus, and Lullabies for Piano and Cello. Orchestral Works marks a milestone in the evolution of his artistry, adding a fresh twist to postmodern classical music, and his newfound love with the orchestra.

Orkestra is the brainchild of singer/bassist Kelly Groucutt and violinist Mik Kaminski, former members of the Electric Light Orchestra who formed the band in 1987, just after Electric Light Orchestra packed it in. Their purpose, of course, is to act as an ELO clone band, performing the group's repertoire in concert in order to satiate the hunger of ELO fans no longer being addressed by founder/leader Jeff Lynne, who headed off to California. All well and good, but after half a dozen years on the road, the band had worked up their own material in the style of ELO, and here is an album's worth of it.
