Pacific Breeze

The three CDs in Art Pepper's Mosaic Select volume – limited to 5000 sets – contain the three albums he did for Pacific Jazz – The Return of Art Pepper (titled as such as after a stay in a Texas Federal Prison), Modern Art, and The Art of Pepper – complete with alternate takes not available on the original CD issues, and two sessions headed by Joe Morello and Bill Perkins, totaling 45 cuts in all. This is not substandard playing, but fully realized, mature Art Pepper at his creative peak. These sets compiled by Michael Cuscuna also contain the CD release essays by the late writer Pete Welding.

Young Gun Silver Fox are musical sorcerers. On “West End Coast”, they've fashioned a fresh and modern sound that summons one of the most vibrant and influential epochs in popular music. The ten songs herein pay homage to 1970s Los Angeles, a golden age of recording that infused the pop charts and FM airwaves with a blend of soulful voices, immaculate melodies, stellar musicianship, and sophisticated studio technology.

This release combines two up-tempo Doris Day albums from the late '50s and early '60s. The discs were not released sequentially; 1959's Cuttin' Capers was followed by two 1960 releases, What Every Girl Should Know and Show Time, before Bright and Shiny appeared in 1961. But the two albums share a sprightly tone. The theme of Bright and Shiny is happy songs - "I Want to Be Happy," "Happy Talk" - while Cuttin' Capers is even more frolicsome. There are songs that were newly written at the time, such as the scene-setting "Cuttin' Capers," which leads things off, and "Twinkle and Shine," the title song from Day's reissued 1961 film (the first time around in 1959 it had been called It Happened to Jane), which closed the disc, but for the most part the songs are drawn from the Great American Songbook, dating back to the mid-'20s for tunes like "I'm Sitting on Top of the World" and "I Want to Be Happy"…

Sandy Lam has won many awards during the course of her career, including Best Regional Performing Female Artist, Best Album, Best Female Vocalist, the Asia Pacific Most Outstanding Female Artist, and an honorary Music Award for her contributions to the music industry.
