This video addresses not only the Flemish Old Master's Method, but also the concept of narrative painting, where contemporary, costumed models are placed in a historical setting—all created to tell a visual story. All the references for this painting will be shown, with examples of how to integrate compositional elements from varying sources into a harmonious composition.

We recently spent a full week in Morgan Weistling's studio filming the entire painting process of this beautiful work, which was created for a gallery sale. This is not the typical demonstration painting seen in workshops. It was painted over a period of six days with Morgan providing a continuous commentary about his drawing and painting process. Morgan receives countless invitations to teach workshops around the country, but due to his gallery and show obligations, his opportunity to teach is rare. So to be able to reach the painters who want to study with him, but can’t, he filmed this video to fill that need.

Unlike other videos in the "In the Studio With…." series, this program was not filmed in Robert Johnson personal studio, due to logistical limitations by so much video equipment. Instead, it was filmed entirely in Liliedahl Fine Art Studio, which enabled us to give the artist and the production crew sufficient area to work and provide the viewer with the best view possible.
