Patrick Frances McManus was one of 6 children born into an incredibly talented musical family in Derrylin, Co.Fermangh, N.Ireland. Pat’s father, John, and his mother Valerie were highly accomplished Traditional Irish music players, so it wasn’t long before Pat and his two brothers, John and Tommy, were picking up all the instruments lying around the house and learning to play.

John Davidson was a vocalist who could sell a lot of albums without the benefit of hit singles. He put several songs on the adult contemporary chart, but never once graced the pop chart despite making some very successful albums. My Best to You was a commercial disappointment after Davidson's first album, The Time of My Life!, but again shows that he is a confident and dynamic vocalist, unlike many of the "golden throats" celebrity vocalists with whom he is often lumped. At times he sounds startlingly similar to Pat Boone, but asserts his own identity on songs like "That's Life" and "Sunny." Davidson's music is a perfect example of how traditional and teen idol pop turned into easy listening in the late '60s without suffering much of a change at all.

Chris Cohen's songs initially sound easy. They're each tiny jewels that unfurl at a leisurely pace, but dig a little deeper and you'll reach a melancholy core. His previous two albums - 2012's Overgrown Path, and 2016's As If Apart - were built from lush, blurry tracks that embedded themselves in your subconscious, like they'd always been there. Chris Cohen, his third solo album, is a thoughtful, accomplished meditation on life and family, backed by dusky instrumentation influenced by the late evening beauty of Pat Metheny's Falcon and the Snowman soundtrack, and Thomas Dolby's Golden Age of Wireless. It's beautiful, but it's also unflinching in it's depiction of emotional turmoil.
