Site of two Olympic Games, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum provides a fitting backdrop to the last lap of the Born In The U.S.A. tour. On opening night of the final four shows, in front 83,000 fans, Bruce & The E Street Band hit their stadium-tour zenith with a powerhouse performance that mixes road-tested versions of “Seeds,” “Atlantic City,” “Working on the Highway,” “I’m Goin’ Down,” “Glory Days,” “Trapped,” “Dancing in the Dark” and “Downbound Train” with risk-taking world premieres of Edwin Starr’s “War” and the beloved b-side, “Janey, Don’t You Lose Heart.”

Equal parts concert and Irish wake, Tampa 2008 celebrates the life of founding E Street Band member Dan Federici, who passed away five days earlier. With heavy hearts, Bruce and the band perform a charged, emotional set that blends key tracks from Magic and songs selected with Phantom Dan in mind, including the tour premiere of “Growin’ Up,” a rare, show-opening “Backstreets,” “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” and a cathartic, one-off performance of the gospel standard, “I’ll Fly Away.”

At last, the Rising tour arrives in the form of Springsteen’s first-ever appearance in Finland. Helsinki serves as a potent album showcase and features nine Rising cuts including “Lonesome Day,” “Empty Sky,” “World’s Apart,” “You’re Missing,” “Into the Fire” and the title track. The set’s poignancy is well balanced by playfulness, with vibrant versions of “No Surrender,” “Dancing In The Dark,” “Darlington County,” “Seven Nights To Rock” and “Glory Days,” plus a striking, set-opening solo acoustic version of “Born In The U.S.A.”

The last night of a three-show Windy City stand captures Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band playing with the kind of purpose and passion that made the Reunion tour so memorable. Chicago ’99 balances tour staples like “Murder Incorporated,” “Youngstown” and “If I Should Fall Behind” with rarer outings for “Adam Raised A Cain,” “Independence Day” and “She’s the One,” plus true surprises “Take ‘Em As They Come,” “Janey, Don’t You Lose Heart” and a resplendent “New York City Serenade.”

Tour premieres of “Boom Boom” (written by John Lee Hooker), “Tougher Than the Rest,” “Fire,” and “Jolé Blon” (traditional, popularized by the Breaux Brothers, Joan Baez, Gary U.S. Bonds, et al.). “Fire” is performed acoustically with Patti Scialfa. “Trapped” returns to the set. Four songs from 2020’s Letter To You: “Ghosts,” “Letter to You,” “Last Man Standing” and “I’ll See You In My Dreams.” “Last Man Standing” features a new arrangement. “I’ll See You In My Dreams” is performed solo acoustic to end the show. One song from 2022’s Only the Strong Survive: “Nightshift” (written by Franne Golde, Dennis Lambert and Walter Orange, popularized by The Commodores). Concert stalwarts like “Because The Night,” “Dancing in the Dark,” and “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” are performed in tighter, shorter versions. “Thunder Road” is the main-set closer.
