Bella Union announce 'Killer Road', a collaborative project between Soundwalk Collective, Patti Smith and Jesse Paris Smith. A shimmering ambient tone, an electronic underlay to the lulling chatter of crickets, makes way for the unmistakeable voice of Patti Smith, quietly intoning, ominously, "The killer road is waiting for you / like a finger, pointing in the night." 'Killer Road' is a deep, dark, illuminating and meditative journey into mortality and motion, into fear and doubt and, eventually, death.

BROADCAST FUNDRAISER FROM PATTI SMITH CIRCA 1998 In 1996, Patti Smith worked with long-time colleagues Lenny Kaye and Jay Dee Daugherty to record her sixth studio album Gone Again, featuring "About a Boy", a tribute to Kurt Cobain who had committed suicide two years earlier. In the wake of the album s release, Smith toured Europe, then went back into the studio with pretty much the same band to make her follow up record. Peace and Noise was released on September 30th 1997, and featured the track 1959 which was nominated for a Grammy Award the following year. Patti spent a lot of 1998 touring, including dates in Australia and New Zealand supporting Bob Dylan. On November 22nd, Smith performed at WXRT FM s Holiday Concerts For The Kids , an annual fundraiser taking place at The Riviera Theater in Chicago. Performing a superb set drawn from across the girl s extraordinary career, this stunning broadcast recording is now available here on CD for the first time.

Patti Smith - Dream of life, 1988 (1st press) (Arista Records)

The big difference between Patti Smith's four 1970s albums and this return to action after nine years lies in the choice of collaborator. Where Smith's main associate earlier had been Lenny Kaye, a deliberately simple guitarist, here her co-writer and co-producer (with Jimmy Iovine) was her husband, Fred "Sonic" Smith, formerly of the MC5, who played guitar with a conventional rock competence and who lent his talents to each of the tracks, giving them a mainstream flavor…

Nearly 30 years and nine albums in, Patti Smith shows no signs of giving up, or giving in, despite the fact she expected to be quietly doing her work instead of making rock & roll albums and playing in front of audiences. But then 9/11, Afghanistan, war in Iraq. Smith lives the vocation of a poet in an old-world sense of that word. Once, bards were the gadflies of society. Smith's Trampin' is a work that directly evolves from that tradition and fits squarely in her oeuvre. Trampin' is Smith's first outing for new label Columbia. She and her bandmates – Lenny Kaye, Jay Dee Daugherty, Tony Shanahan, and Oliver Ray – walk the tightrope between in-your-face garage rock, poetic ballads, and raucous, improvisational pieces (à la "Radio Ethiopia")…

Few women in rock have had as enormous an impact and influence as Patti Smith. The first of the art-punk poets, Smith burst onto the early New York punk scene in 1975 with regular appearances at the legendary CBGB club between 1974 and 1976. A major record deal in 1975 took her far and wide across America, but CBGB's would be her spiritual home and here she returns with a classic, no holds barred performance, on 11th August 1979, long after her career had exploded to the point where she was selling out 5,000 seater auditoriums! For those wanting a more emotional and intimate moment with Patti Smith, you have it right here in this deluxe double disc set.

Patti Smith - Gone again, 1996 (Arista Records)

After years of silence, Patti Smith returned to music with a series of concerts in late 1995. It had been years since she had performed live – for most of the '80s and '90s, she concentrated on domestic life. Following the death of her husband, Fred "Sonic" Smith, in early 1995, Smith began playing music in public again and those concerts eventually led to the triumphant comeback Gone Again. Her husband wasn't the only loved one Smith lost between 1988's Dream of Life and 1996's Gone Again – her brother and her close friend Robert Mapplethorpe both died.
