Decca Records will release the official soundtrack album for the documentary Pavarotti. The album features the most popular, signature arias & songs performed by opera singer Luciano Pavarotti, alongside iconic live moments from some of the biggest concerts he was involved in. From the filmmaking team behind the highly-acclaimed documentary The Beatles: Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years, PAVAROTTI is a riveting film that lifts the curtain on the icon who brought opera to the people. Universal's ubiquitous Twentieth Century Masters series is mostly oriented toward popular music, offering no-frills but generally reliable greatest-hits collections for artists whose catalogs may often present a variety of compilations, confusing for the buyer. There's nothing really wrong with this group of Luciano Pavarotti selections, but the great Italian tenor is not especially accurately represented here. Nearly half the selections are Neapolitan songs or come from related semi-popular genres. Pavarotti has a good time with these, but he is less noted for singing them than are other operatic figures.

Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti has given a huge free concert in London's Hyde Park to celebrate 30 years in opera. A crowd of 100,000 - out of an expected 250,000 - stood in the rain to watch Pavarotti perform 20 arias by Verdi, Puccini, Bizet and Wagner. It was the biggest outdoor music event in Hyde Park since the Rolling Stones performed there in 1969.
