Pearl Oysters

This tribute compilation features renditions of Margo Guryan songs by TOPS, Rahill, Clairo, June McDoom, MUNYA and Kainalu, Frankie Cosmos and Good Morning, Kate Bollinger, Pearl and the Oysters, Bedouine and Sylvie, Empress Of, Barrie, and Margo Price. Margo Guryan was a singer, songwriter, pianist, and composer who released her first and only album, Take a Picture, in 1968. While the album had little commercial success at the time, both the album and Margo became cult classics in the following decades, and are now considered a definitive part of the sunshine-pop canon.

Normally, one thinks of pearl-divers as of people from the Southern seas, typically the Tropical ones. Certainly, the ice-cold waters of the polar and subpolar seas are not those most immediately associated with pearl-fishing. And, indeed, the “pearls from the Northern Seas” represented in this Da Vinci Classics album are intangible and invisible, as they represent the domain of the audible.

Haruomi Hosono is the legendary artist best known for his tenure in the seminal band Yellow Magic Orchestra. Hosono House Revisited is compilation of reworks of Haruomi Hosono’s iconic solo debut, Hosono House, celebrating 50 years since its release. This compilation sees musicians from the Stones Throw roster and beyond offer up their own interpretations of Hosono’s songs. Artists revisiting Hosono's songs include John Carroll Kirby ft the Mizuhara Sisters, Jerry Paper, Pearl & The Oysters, Sam Gendel, Cornelius, and more.
