An instrumental is, in contrast to a song, a musical composition or recording without lyrics or any other sort of vocal music; all of the music is produced by musical instruments. Specifically, this term is used when referring to popular music; some musical genres make little use of the human voice, such as jazz, electronic music, and large amounts of European classical music (although in electronic music the voice can be sampled just like anything else). In commercial music, some tracks or songs on a compact disc include instrumental tracks. These tracks are often exact copies of the corresponding song, but do not have vocals.

Popular pop compositions of different years, as: How Deep Is Your Love, My Heart Will Go On, Let It Be, I Just Called to Say I Love You, and many others, played the piano in a wonderful collection of "30 Pop Classics on Piano ". Enjoy!

Although he is best remembered for his orchestral and instrumental music, Saint-Saens was also responsible for spearheading the revival of the French Baroque, especially the music of Lully and Rameau, as well as being perfectly placed to absorb the latest instrumental dance music. His five 'character waltzes' include the ethereal and ravishingly textured Valse mignonne, the stylistically forward-looking Valse nonchalante and teh virtuosic Valse gaie, the composer's final waltz for solo piano, while the three minor key Mazurkas are strongly characterised and filled with ingeious musical contrasts. Last but not least, the three 'souvenirs' are delightful evocations of particular corners of the world that inspired Saint-Saens.

Mozart’s great musical love was opera. This rather peremptory statement is also unquestionable. He confessed to his father that he would “cry” out of envy when he listened to an opera written by somebody else. Yet, the problem was that – at his time just as today – operas were very expensive, and one had to have an established fame and a foothold in the world of music in order to be commissioned one.

Cage - Satie - Feldman - Takahashi sums up the focus of this album. All of these works by Cage are influenced by Satie. Cage's friend and colleague Morton Feldman made an arrangement of Cage's solo piano Cheap Imitation for a trio of piano, flutes/piccolo and glockenspiel. Feldman’s admiration for the pianist Aki Takahashi caused him to gift this arrangement to her. And, full circle, you have the repertoire of this album. The major discovery is Feldman’s arrangement of Cheap Imitation for this very Feldmanesque instrumental ensemble. It is unknown why Feldman made this arrangement in 1980. Knowing of Takahashi’s reputation as a pianist specializing in new music, Feldman had invited her to be an artist in residence at the university where he taught. When she was leaving, Feldman gave a musical score to Takahashi as a gift. It was a copy of John Cage’s solo piano piece Cheap Imitation with annotations by Feldman. He told her that this was an instrumental version of this piece: flute, piano, and glockenspiel.

Ronald Brautigam, with the congenial support of Die Kölner Akademie, under Michael Alexander Willens, here performs Mozart’s Piano Concertos Nos. 24 and 25, both composed in 1786. The C major concerto is in fact one of the most expansive of all classical piano concertos, rivalling Beethoven’s fifth concerto. Their grandeur immediately made them popular fare in the concert hall – Mendelssohn, for instance, had No.24 in his repertoire through the 1820s and 1830s.

George Onslow’s (1784-1853) grandfather was the first Earl of Onslow. Onslow’s father had been forced to leave England after a family scandal and had continued his life as a nobleman in France. George was born there and grew up in the magnificent castle of Chalendrat in Clermont-Ferrand, where he followed his father as lord of the manor. At the age of 22 he discovered the operas of Mehul and decided then that music was his vocation. Onslow combined this double life of composer and chatelain in Auvergne, but in the winter season he appeared frequently in Parisian musical circles, where he met composers such as Meyerbeer, Rossini, and Donizetti, alongside the salons where Liszt and Chopin presented their romantic bravura piano music. Onslow’s musical style was very different from that of his colleagues. With his strict classical style, he was unique in Paris, concentrating on instrumental works, primarily chamber music, earning him the nickname, "French Beethoven". Schumann described Onslow’s quartets as worthy successors to those by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven.
