For her ATMA Classique debut, flutist Nadia Labrie presents the Suite for flute and jazz piano trio by Claude Bolling (1930-2020), the iconoclastic French composer whose series of flute suites has become emblematic of jazz-classical crossover music.

When Nikolai Kapustin’s music was discovered by a wider audience in the West, it certainly came as a shock: Who was this Soviet composer, whose music mostly resembled an Oscar Peterson improvisation, but was notated in heavily detailed scores? As we continue to discover more of his music, not least on this new recording, Kapustin shows how he developed his style subtly and steadily, always moving with the times. As the music that influenced him changed, so did his own. The development of Big Band Jazz can be traced in his work and, in that sense, Kapustin never settled on one style, except that he fused jazz and classical music so inseparably in the first place.

Dupree’s wholehearted commitment to Kapustin shines bright in his latest release, the third in an ongoing series devoted to the composer’s six piano concertos and other concertante works for piano and orchestra.

Bach and jazz. Two incredibly well-known concepts. Yet a new, strangely organic entity emerges when Bach Jazz combine them. Inspired as much by Swedish piano master Jan Johansson and George Harrison as Miles Davis and Nils Frahm, the trio has developed a strikingly personal tone on the debut album. Knut Kongsvold (b. 1989) is a norwegian jazzpianist/composer. For the moment he lives in Bergen where he studies jazz at The Grieg Academy. He has played on different festivals and clubs around in Norway.

The Chicago –based jazz vocalist has won accolades around the world for her introspective approach to the genre, most profoundly through her one-woman tribute to George Gershwin, The Memory of All That, conceived with the blessing of the Gershwin estate and headlining the Gershwin Centennial in St. Petersburg, Russia.
