The Legendary Pink Dots are an influential, staggeringly prolific group led by enigmatic frontman Edward Ka-Spel. Emerging from the early-'80s post-punk underground and sometimes categorized as industrial due to associations with bands like Skinny Puppy, the group's music is nearly impossible to pin down, drawing from Krautrock, ambient, folk, synth pop, and numerous other styles.

Normally we try to avoid audience recordings as, all too often, those in front of the stage can come across as being louder than the band ON the stage. Back in 1993, at the rather beautiful old Trocadero Theatre, the audience did their best to triumph in the loudness battle so this release is far from being sonically perfect. However, there's a quality to the playing and a certain clarity that earns it a place on this page. It's a transitional set of songs too, featuring a few rarities. Just turn it up and step right inside, but PLEASE …do be quiet!

The original Third Mind tapes were released in March (Volume One and Two) and September (Volume Three, Four and Five) 1983. ‘Rising From The Red Sand’ was one the most comprehensive compilations of early 80’s industrial, wave and underground music, spanning a total of five cassettes, compiled by Gary Levermore for his own Third Mind Records label (which has also recently been revived). The original five tapes are now released as a 5xLP set, following several months of tracking down as many artists as possible to obtain their permission to reissue their material.
