Back in 1957, when Jerry Lee Lewis exploded on radio and jukeboxes with “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On” and “Great Balls of Fire,” rock’n’roll was brand new, young and wild, loud and dangerous. The same could be said of Jerry Lee. Jerry Lee was in Louisiana when he heard Elvis and Carl Perkins and knew he had to get to Memphis and Sam Phillips, a man he thought would understand his music. When Jerry Lee Lewis was recording for Sun records it was his most prolific period in my opinion and this great box set containing 128 of his best recordings is simply stunning. One of the best box sets out there. Each of the four discs contains plenty of vintage rock 'n' roll as well as a few country songs, an even some gospel and rhythm & blues ditties thrown in for good measure. Of course, all of the big hits are included, as well as some rare gems that will have you coming back for more. Also remarkable is the attention to detail in the beautiful booklet, which includes several terrific photos and a very informative biography. Also there's a very insightful commentary, complete with recording dates of every song in the collection.

Like a heat lightening, scorching across the hot Louisania night! I had never heard much Jerry Lee Lewis when I first decided to pick up this box set. Truth be told, the early years of rock'n'roll had not interested me much until a few months ago when my younger cousin introduced me to some of the music. Its all fair and square, though, I got him hooked in classic country a few years back.
Anyway, this box set rocks; its an amazing collection of the early work of Jerry Lee Lewis who was one of the early greats of the genre. When you listen to this music you can not help but feel that all of the cool, rebeliousness, and power which are oozing from the speakers is rubbing off on you just a little bit.

The Magic City Edition of C,XOXO will arrive on Friday, September 6, and feature the new single "Godspeed."
"I wish you well, but far away from me," Cabello captioned a teaser video of the new single, hinting at a possible theme about a breakup. "Always more stories to tell. Some new songs for your night in Magic City," she wrote in the second post announcing the deluxe album.
