Pisces were Tim Greenwood (Bass and acoustic guitars), John O’Connor (6 string guitar and Bass) and more famously, Richard Digance (acoustic guitars and keyboards). They were assisted by Alan Eden (percussion) of Mr Fox fame. John O’Connor is now living in Santa Barbara, California and since Pisces had more commercial success by co-writing and recording the top ten single ‘Arthur Daley, he’s alright’ under the band name ‘The Firm’ and also co-writing the number one hit ‘Star trekkin’ which was the tenth best selling single of 1987. He also won a BMI Tv songwriting award for writing the music for the Emmy awarded series ‘King of the hill’.
When Johnny Griffin and Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis entered a New York studio with producer Orrin Keepnews on May 3, 1962, they did some things that were unusual for the two-tenor team. They played mostly ballads, they didn't engage in any tenor battles and - most surprising of all - they didn't perform together on any of the tunes. Griffin was featured on four songs, Davis on another four. The same rhythm section - Horace Parlan, bassist Buddy Catlett and drummer Art Taylor - was always present, but Parlan played piano on the songs featuring Griffin and celeste on the songs featuring Davis. For whatever reason, the performances remained in the can for 42 years; they weren't even mastered until 1966, and they finally saw the light of day when Fantasy released Pisces in 2004…
The deluxe version of Pisces Iscariot is a treasure trove of Pumpkins material, presenting the original album remastered, a bonus CD filled with 17 previously unreleased or alternate versions of ‘Pisces’ era songs, a DVD of 24 previously unreleased live performances from gigs and jams between 1988 and 1994, a reproduction of the Smashing Pumpkins’ first ever demo tape, as well as postcards, watercolour illustrations, lyrics, photos, liner notes by David Wild and track-by-track annotations by Billy Corgan himself – all housed in a deluxe box.
This release contains Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers’ complete original album Pisces (Blue Note GXF 3060), which appears here for the first time ever on a single CD. It features an amazing lineup, with the leader on drums, Lee Morgan on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Wayne Shorter on tenor sax, Cedar Walton and Bobby Timmons alternating on piano, and Jymmie Merritt and Reggie Workman alternating on bass. As a bonus, an alternate versions of “Ping Pong” and “United” (recorded six days after the takes included on Pisces), as well as three songs which complete that session.
Billy Corgan probably never smashed a pumpkin in his life. He was too busy making fun of the macho oafs who fueled their teen angst with power chords and cheap beer. Corgan is much more the type to hide in his room and write sweet songs or bash … Full Descriptionout manic sludgefests with tricky titles. "Plume," being the perfect example, finds Corgan boasting "my boredom outshines the sun."
Boasting aside, Corgan's boredom is not contagious or completely self-serving. PISCES ISCARIOT is a collection of B-sides and rarities that, even more than GISH or SIAMESE DREAM, offers insight into the workings of one of alternative rock's most sought-after songwriters.
Taurus & Pisces is the Dutch duo of Gert Bruins (Pisces) and Peter Everts (Taurus). The two met in 1985 and have remained good friends ever since. Everts has played guitar in several bands since 1978 while Bruins is relatively new to the music scene and started out playing in the bands Life Less Serious and Dikke Bertha.
