It's a year of transition for Devin Townsend, who not only has a number of projects in the works, but is also revisiting some of his past musical experiences while he plots away in the studio. One result of this is a new live release that was recorded during the Devin Townsend Project's tour last fall. The band's show at the Ancient Roman Theatre in Plovdiv, Bulgaria serves as the basis for this set.
Bulgarian pianist Milcho's 3rd album on the label. Actually recorded during the same sessions as "Bulgarian Piano Blues" (M012A), this album is mostly improvised, revealing just how far Milcho can go! Here, he swings freely, powerfully and incessantly with his Balkan influenced, bluesy improvisations. Of special interest are the Bulgarian folk tune, "Sadovsko Oro," Milcho's "C Blues Suite" and the finale, "Dies Irae," dedicated to Igor Stravinsky. The sound of the Bцsendorfer Imperial Concert Grand Piano is extremely dynamic; an audiophile dream!
