Two musical orders meet in the programme of this album, both with reference to the most broadly conceived music history and to the universe of Krzysztof Pendereckis output. Apart from the opera, which holds its own separate place, they are the two largest-scale formal orders in the musical art: those of the symphony and the concerto, which represent two fundamental ideas: respectively, those of co-operation and of competition. Krzysztof Pendereckis symphonic writing is one of the most important elements of his output as a composer, and possibly the most fascinating one.
Karol Szymanowski spent his early years in Ukraine (where many affluent Polish families still owned land at the time). An injury to the leg forced young Karol into a life of relative inactivity, and, from age seven on, attendance at school was replaced by rigorous musical studies (first under his father's tutelage, and then, from 1892 on, at Gustav Neuhaus' music school in Elisavetgrad). Although early training focused on the piano, Neuhaus was quick to observe his young student's potential as a composer. While in Elisavetgrad, Szymanowski was introduced to the German classics as well as to Chopin and Scriabin. After studies with Noskowski in Warsaw from 1903 to 1905, Szymanowski lived for a time in Berlin, helping to found ……All Music Guide

The CD, unreleased as always, is dedicated to a romantic masterpiece, the Concerto for Cello and Orchestra No. 2 in B minor by Antonín Dvořák, played by the Italian virtuoso Miriam Prandi with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra under the orders of Michele Spotti. The CD is completed by a rarely heard work, the overture Le Roi d'Ys by Édouard Lalo. Unparalleled live recording of the concert in Katowice, December 8, 2023.
This is a beautiful album of Songs with Orchestra by Szymanowski. The Polish State Philharmonic Orchestra is skillfully deployed by Karol Stryja who is a passionate advocate for this music. There are nineteen songs. How lovely it would have been if there had been a translation of the words of the songs included in the package because it requires a bit of effort to discover how the music fits these words. Another thing that would have been helpful would have been for each song to occupy a track. There are 3 fragments from a Christian religious poem by Jan Kasprowicz on tracks 5 - 7.
The 100th anniversary of Mieczyslaw Wajnberg’s birth in January 2019 is an excellent opportunity to bring his works closer to the Polish audience. Although in the recent years Wajnberg’s works have been performed and recorded more and more often, his music in our country is well known only to a narrow group of recipients. The album of the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio conducted by Anna Duczmal-Mróz, including three pieces by Wajnberg (Chamber Symphony No. 1, Op. 145, Concerto for flute and strings No. 1, Op. 75 and Chamber Symphony No. 3, Op. 153) allows the recipient to get to know various facets of the composer, starting from the influences of Neoclassicism, ending with inspiration from the works by Dimitri Shostakovich.
