2017 collection. Phil Seymour's story reads like a novel: three young hopefuls from Tulsa in love with '60s music and determined to bring back melody and pop songs to '70s rock set off for Hollywood to find fame and fortune. First comes joy as they sign to Shelter Records and crash into the Top 20 in 1975 as the Dwight Twilley Band. Next, frustration as they encounter problems with their failing record company, and the inevitable split as drummer/vocalist/songwriter Phil Seymour goes solo. Initially he struggles to find a foothold but once the new wave hits America, the Phil Seymour Band storms Hollywood and becomes one of the hottest acts on the circuit.

In America the golden season for music festivals ended up in late '69 with the Altamont's accidents, a few months after Woodstock. In the early seventies in Europe there was still space for some "good vibrations", as proved by the Kralingen Pop festival, near Rotterdam, on June 1970. The event, documented by the movie Stamping Ground, is often remembered as the European Woodstock, because of the presence of many artists that had already played on that historical three-days concert, like Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Canned Heat, Country Joe. But the Kralingen festival also showed how vital was the British scene on that period, offering great perfomances by bands like Pink Floyd, Soft Machine, East Of Eden, Caravan, Fairport Convention, Family, T. Rex…

MUSIC AND INTERVIEWS FROM THE ODDEST OF COUPLES David s friendship was the light of my life. I never met such a brilliant person. He was the best there is . So tweeted Iggy Pop upon hearing the news of David Bowie s death in January 2016. Iggy and Bowie had been friends since 1971 when the pair met, a period of excess when we were all pretty bad but he was at least viable . Bowie would then invite him to travel along as a fly on the wall on the tour following the release of Station to Station. Then came Berlin, The Idiot and Lust For Life, and the legendary tour during which David played keyboards while the Ig performed manically centre stage. This triple disc box set explores and celebrates the unique relationship between this pair of extraordinary show men and features the full recording from the aforementioned tour when Iggy performed at Ohio s Agora Ballroom, with Bowie in tow on the keys, a further show from the same tour at Chicago s Mantra Studios, and a third disc of interviews during which they not only sing high praise about each other, but join forces in one notable session when the results are as anarchic and hilarious as one might imagine. Beautifully packaged and completed with the collector in mind, this box set will delight fans of both these maverick performers and provides a tasteful memento of one of the most enduring and genuine friendships ever developed under the guise of Rock n Roll.

Excellent LP full of energy and rhythm. Marek & Vacek were two piano players from Poland specialized in playing pop tunes and classical ones with their own rhythmic way, backed by a vivid pop orchestra. The result is enthousiastic. Hear "Cecilia" and "Tea for Two" together with "Carmen" and "Traviata" and feel the energy emanating from the two pianos.

Pop music in the ’60s and ’70s was a kaleidoscope of sound – a dizzying, diverse wonderland unthinkable in these days of targeted demographics and niche marketing. Whereas Hard To Find 45s on CD Volume 11: Sugar Pop Classics focuses on a specific – if ephemeral – slice of the pop pie, Volume 12: 60s & 70s Pop Classics embraces the cacophony, culling nearly an hour’s worth of wildly divergent Top 20 Hits not commonly found on other collections.

As soul music moved into the early '70s, it became dominated by smoother sounds and polished productions, picking up its cues from Motown, Chicago soul, and uptown soul. By the beginning of the decade, soul was fracturing in a manner similar to pop/rock, as pop-soul, funk, vocal groups, string-laden Philly soul, and sexy Memphis soul became just a few of the many different subgenres to surface. Often, the productions on these records were much more polished than '60s productions, boasting sound effects, synthesizers, electric keyboards, echoes, horn sections, acoustic guitars, and strings.
