Porno For Pyros

Good God's Urge is the second and last album by Porno for Pyros. It was released on May 28, 1996. The band went on a brief hiatus shortly after this album's release because guitarist Peter DiStefano was diagnosed with cancer. On this second album, Porno for Pyros changed their style. Instead of their funky alternative rock style from the first album, they play a rather exotic music with folklore elements.

Perry Farrell's first project since splitting up Jane's Addiction, Porno for Pyros' self-titled debut, was one of the most highly anticipated rock releases of 1993. Joining Farrell is ex-Jane's drummer Stephen Perkins, guitarist Peter DiStefano, and bassist Martyn LeNoble, and while the music of Porno for Pyros contains some similarities to Jane's, it turned out to be a more ethereal and psychedelic affair.

MOM: Music for Our Mother Ocean is a series of three compilations produced by Surfdog Records to benefit the Surfrider Foundation. The albums feature original songs as well as covers – many sharing a surfing or summer theme – by a range of popular artists.

Perry Farrell has been the singer of two groundbreaking, influential bands – Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros – so it was only fitting that a best-of should be issued. The 1999 16-track compilation Rev included highlights and rarities from both outfits, as well as a pair of new solo tracks.

Jane's Addiction were one of the most hotly pursued rock bands when they gained notice in Los Angeles in the mid-'80s, with record companies at their feet. Flamboyant frontman Perry Farrell, formerly of the band Psi Com, had an undeniable charisma and an interest in provocative art (he designed the band's album covers), and Jane's Addiction played a hybrid of rock music: metal with strains of punk, folk, and jazz. The quartet, comprised of Farrell, bassist Eric Avery, drummer Stephen Perkins, and guitarist Dave Navarro, had already released its debut album as well, in the form of a live recording from the Roxy in Hollywood. Finally, Warner Bros. won the bidding war and released Nothing's Shocking in 1988. The band's abrasive sound and aggressive attitude (typified by the nude sculpture on the cover) led to some resistance, but Jane's Addiction began to break through to an audience – the album spent 35 weeks on the charts.
