Belgian serialist and electro-acoustic composer Henri Pousseur has, since the 1950s, been deeply involved in the research and development of electro-acoustic music. He was a collaborator and colleague of three of the genre's largest proponents: Pierre Boulez, Luciano Berio, and Karlheinz Stockhausen. The three works contained here come from different aspects of Pousseur's long and varied – if largely unnoticed – career.

Henri Pousseur realized his Huit Études Paraboliques in the Cologne studio of the Westdeutscher Rundfunk. Like many of his compositions these eight electronic studies are ‘open’ works. However, by contrast with the aforementioned tape work Scambi which could only be realized using editing techniques of the analogue medium, these tape compositions were produced in ‘real-time’.

This triple album spans nearly 4 hours of dismantling and unfolding mutable soundscapes which mesh together with aplomb. The smarts of conjuring up such apotheosis of genres and crossovers is ultimately a stroke of genius too great a deal to overhear. Do yourself a favor and immerse yourself in this for as long as you are unable to find your way out of awe…
