With 12 albums of thunderous, none-more-classic heavy metal under their collective, studded cummerbund, you might forgive Primal Fear for running out of steam at this point.

2009 release, the most powerful and ambitious album in Primal Fear's history. All the trademarks of the Primal Fear sound are featured and the total dedication to pure Heavy Metal is easily found in songs like 'Six Times Dead (16.6)', 'Soar', 'Smith & Wesson' as well as the epic stories, consummate musicianship and fantastic melodies in songs like 'Black Rain', 'No Smoke Without Fire', 'Torn' and the stylistically new ballad 'Hands Of Time' with the four guys all sharing the lead vocals.

“Best of Fear“, as the name implies, is a new best of compilation from German heavy metal masters, Primal Fear. This double album culls together the best material from Primal Fear’s last 10 years of work (including the albums “New Religion,” “16.6 (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead),” “Unbreakable,” “Delivering the Black,” & “Rulebreaker”), plus four brand new songs recorded specifically for this release.

After releasing a string of heavy and hard-hitting singles from 'Metal Commando' (2020), mastermind Mat Sinner and vocal force Ralf Scheepers have something extraordinary up their sleeves; a 5-track single, built around an exclusive rendition of their achingly beautiful ballad 'I Will Be Gone', re-recorded with none other than Finnish metal diva extraordinaire, Tarja Turunen.

A lot of times, compilation albums aren't really worth reviewing because they're collections of old songs that have already been reviewed. However, when the compilations contain some fresh new material as well, then they're worth giving a review to. With that being said, Primal Fear have been signed to two labels in their career: Nuclear Blast Records from 1998 - 2006 and Frontiers Records from 2006, right up to the present day. In 2006, they released their first best-of compilation Metal Is Forever - The Very Best Of Primal Fear, containing a bunch of songs from the Nuclear Blast years from the first album up to Seven Seals. Now, they're releasing their second best-of album titled Best Of Fear, containing a large amount of material from the Frontiers years from New Religion right up to their last album Rulebreaker. Not only does this compilation contain 23 songs from the past, but also 4 new recordings. Three of those are fresh new originals and one is a cover.
