Songs from the Big Chair is the second studio album by the British rock/pop band Tears for Fears, released on 25 February 1985 by Mercury Records in most countries and distributed internationally by Phonogram Inc. The album peaked at number two in the UK and number one in the US and Canada. It spawned the international hit singles "Mothers Talk", "Shout", "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", "Head Over Heels", and "I Believe". It remains their best-selling album to date. Songs from the Big Chair has been included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. In a retrospective review published on AllMusic, Stanton Swihart wrote: "In the loping, percolating 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World', Tears for Fears perfectly captured the zeitgeist of the mid-'80s while impossibly managing to also create a dreamy, timeless pop classic. Songs from the Big Chair is one of the finest statements of the decade."

Dr. John has spent so much time turning out perfectly enjoyable but interchangeable records that it may be easy to forget the spooky voodoo vibes of his earliest, arguably best, records. He may have forgotten it himself, too, but there was a whole generation of British musicians, from Modfather Paul Weller to Spaceman Jason Pierce to the teenaged punks in Supergrass, who remembered the haunted vibe lurking in Gumbo and Gris-Gris. Citing his name in interviews, covering his songs, and enlisting him as a session musician (Mr. Rebennack played on Spiritualized's acclaimed 1997 album, Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating in Space), they created a buzz around Dr. John and were more than willing to play on Anutha Zone, hopefully generating some sales for him in return…

UK three CD anthology from Edward Ball, a celebration of his work and the perfect introduction to Edward's world, from the teenage DIY punk and power pop of 'O'Level and Teenage Filmstars through the indie mod of The Times to Ball's years at the Creation label. 61 tracks, cherry picked from his wonderfully wide-ranging musical journey. Highlights include The Times' smashing 1981 debut single, 'Red With Purple Flashes', their 1982 fan favourite, 'I Helped Patrick McGoohan Escape' inspired by cult TV series The Prisoner, the irresistible 1996 solo near-hit, 'The Mill Hill Self Hate Club' and the full 10:35 version of Love Corporation's 'Give Me Some Love' with stunning production by Andy Weatherall from 1991. Plus a previously unreleased gem for the anthology, 'Song To The Lighthouse', an out- take from his soundtrack to the 2010 Carol Morley film The Edge. The Whaam! Label set up by Edward Ball with the Television Personalities' Dan Treacy and Ball's own Artpop! Label were a direct inspiration for Alan McGee to set up Creation Records who signed Edward in 1988. Brit Pop era solo albums saw Edward joined by musical friends such as Ride's Andy Bell, Nick Heyward and members of The Boo Radleys while Ball's dance and world music influenced project Love Corporation were remixed by Andy Weatherall, Danny Rampling and Monkey Mafia. Ball also resurrected The Times and Teenage Filmstars monikers at Creation, under the former name Ball melded indie and dance music before Primal Scream's 'Screamadelica', while, with the latter, he embraced psychedelic noise.

The cliché about singer/songwriters is that they sing confessionals direct from their heart, but John Lennon exploded the myth behind that cliché, as well as many others, on his first official solo record, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. Inspired by his primal scream therapy with Dr. Arthur Janov, Lennon created a harrowing set of unflinchingly personal songs, laying out all of his fears and angers for everyone to hear. It was a revolutionary record – never before had a record been so explicitly introspective, and very few records made absolutely no concession to the audience's expectations, daring the listeners to meet all the artist's demands…

Out of all the Beatles, John Lennon had the most interesting – and frustrating – solo career. Lennon was capable of inspired, brutally honest confessional songwriting and melodic songcraft; he also had an undying love of straight-ahead rock & roll. But the extremes, both in his music and his life, were what made him fascinating. Where Paul McCartney was content to be a rock star, Lennon dabbled in everything from revolutionary politics to the television talk show circuit during the early '70s. After releasing a pair of acclaimed albums, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, in the early '70s, Lennon sunk into an infamous "lost weekend" where his musical output was decidedly uneven and his public behavior was often embarrassing. Halfway through the decade, he sobered up and retired from performing to become a house-husband and father.
