Ideas came to Prince so quickly that they couldn't be contained on his own records. He masterminded albums by the Time and Sheila E. and gave away hit songs to the Bangles and Sheena Easton, shaping the sound of popular music in the process. There wasn't an area of pop music in the '80s that didn't bear his influence: it could be heard in freaky funk and R&B slow jams, in electro-techno and neo-psychedelic rock, and at the top of the pop charts.

The Super Deluxe Edition brings fans all the audio material that Prince officially released in 1987, as well as 45 previously unissued studio songs recorded between May 1979 and July 1987, and a complete live audio performance from the June 20, 1987 stop on the Sign O’ The Times Tour at Stadium Galgenwaard in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

An innovator and a musical genius bar none, Prince nevertheless took huge influence, both before and during his musical career, from the music, production and compositions of others. He was of course well versed in jazz, soul, R n B, funk and black music generally from an early age, but garnered a fully eclectic taste which was equally informed by Joni Mitchell and Todd Rundgren as it was by James Brown and George Clinton. This collection features 16 tracks which Prince highlighted as being influential during his career, performed cover versions of, or ranked the artists responsible as inspirational and important in his own work.

This is S41E19 of the NBC comedy show Saturday Night Live and honors the music and life of Prince. This shows the appearances of Prince on SNL throughout the years and comedy sketches in relation to Prince, along with previously unseen concert footage at an after party. This aired on 23 April, 2016, two days after Prince's death.

Already an unstoppable force in the record racks and in concert halls, by 1984 Prince was a hit at the box office too. The smash soundtrack album to his self-starring feature Purple Rain cemented Prince into the history books, while his reputation as a musical genius went ballistic. The record has now sold in excess of 25 million copies, featuring as it does five Top 30 singles, including two No. 1s. The album and the film saw a huge resurgence of interest in 2016, following Prince s sudden death, and he received a posthumous American Music Award for this pivotal work. Unsurprisingly, every track from Purple Rain became a firm favourite in Prince s concert repertoire, and notable performances of such have at times surpassed even the majesty of the studio versions. This collection brings such hallowed recordings together for the first time, reproducing Purple Rain in its entirety, and in the process producing a live compilation on CD that will undoubtedly find a place in the collections of every proper Prince fan in existence.
