DRIFTING SUN is an interesting band that's drifted around for quite a while now. Ironically formed in England but consists of Frenchmen and Americans who happened to meet in London and channel their musical mojo into a collective cauldron of creativity. The band has actually had two renditions, the original short stink in the 90s and then after a long hiatus returned in 2015 and has been on the nonstop neo-prog express ever since. After a two year break DRIFTING SUN has returned with its seventh studio album FORSAKEN INNOCENCE which proves to be one of the band's best efforts yet…
SYLVAN is releasing its 10th album 'One to Zero' on a lifelong concept of artificial intelligence in an attempt to save the world from humans. Sylvan is the Teutonic metal prog with a voice, melodies, rhythms, epic, sensitivity and a birth since 1998, neo prog between Arena and RPWL, further a little from Pink Floyd, Marillion or Eloy. A variation of keyboards, a melodic guitar, Marco in the voice and surges of adrenaline to give in sophisticated rock art far enough from instrumental flights…

The Samurai of Prog are having a prolific run. A few short months after 2020‘s "Beyond the Wardrobe" album, the core trio of Marco Bernard, Kimmo Pörsti, and Steve Unruh are joined - as is their way - by a cast of contributing artists and writers, this time crafting an album inspired by The Brothers Grimm fairy tales. ("The Lady and the Lion" is the first of two Grimm-themed albums set to be released in 2021.) The Samurai have become known in progressive rock circles for their symphonic prog creations, which feature lush and varied keyboard sounds, powerful picked bass guitar, dynamic drums, virtuosic violin and flute, and always mixed and mastered for audiophiles. "The Lady and the Lion" features a terrific array of talent, including Ton Scherpenzeel and Bart Schwertmann (Kayak), Octavio Stampalía (Jinetes Negros), Cam Blokland (Southern Empire), Valerie Gracious (Phideaux)…
Putting aside the age-old debate about the difference between 'progressive' and 'prog' for a moment, it's always exciting to hear someone gleefully nailing a classic sound. Thunderously heavy but technically adept on a level that seems slightly unfair, MERCURY X are undoubtedly going to excite a huge number of DREAM THEATER and SYMPHONY X fans with their new album…
During the final years of the 20th century, then Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy founded an instrumental prog rock supergroup with guitarist/bandmate John Petrucci, keyboardist Jordan Rudess (then of Dixie Dregs), and King Crimson bassist/Chapman Stick master Tony Levin. They issued two highly acclaimed studio outings and toured through 2008. Apparently, the mandatory downtime imposed by the global COVID-19 pandemic provided the individuals with the necessary scheduling space to write and record together for the first time in 22 years. Socially distanced in a New York studio, the band composed and recorded LTE3 in July 2020…
