Progress in Nanoelectrooptics ii

The material included in this book provides selected presentations given at the international symposium MEIS2014. The book aims to provide a unique venue where various issues in computer graphics (CG) application fields are discussed by mathematicians as well as CG researchers and practitioners. The target audience is not limited to researchers in academia but also those in industries with a strong interest in digital media creation, scientific visualization and visual engineering.

Over the past four decades polymers containing imide groups (usually as build ing blocks of the polymer backbone) have attracted increasing interest of sci entists engaged in fundamental research as well as that of companies looking into their application and commercialization. This situation will apparently continue in the future and justifies that from time to time reviews be published which sum up the current state of knowledge in this field. Imide groups may impart a variety of useful properties to pol~'mers, e. g. , thermal stability chain stiffness, crystallinity, mesogenic properties, photoreactivity etc. These lead to a broad variety of potential applications.

This book contains articles presented at the 9th Workshop on Differential-Algebraic Equations held in Paderborn, Germany, from 17–20 March 2019. The workshop brought together more than 40 mathematicians and engineers from various fields, such as numerical and functional analysis, control theory, mechanics and electromagnetic field theory. The participants focussed on the theoretical and numerical treatment of “descriptor” systems, i.e., differential-algebraic equations (DAEs).

This third issue on "progress in turbulence" is based on the third ITI conference (ITI interdisciplinary turbulence initiative), which took place in Bertinoro, North Italy. Researchers from the engineering and physical sciences gathered to present latest results on the rather notorious difficult and essentially unsolved problem of turbulence. This challenge is driving us in doing basic as well as applied research. Clear progress can be seen from these contributions in different aspects. New sophisticated methods achieve more and more insights into the underlying complexity of turbulence. The increasing power of computational methods allows studying flows in more details. Increasing demands of high precision large turbulence experiments become aware. In further applications turbulence seem to play a central issue. As such a new field this time the impact of turbulence on the wind energy conversion process has been chosen.
