The fifth "Switched On" volume from Stereolab yet again sweeps up a bunch of their rarest releases, throwing them together with a few unreleased tracks for good measure. A welcome return to top form. After 15 years of studio absence, Steel Pulse take a full circle, returning to winning formula of their first 4 albums. The only surviving original members , vocalist/guitarist David Hinds and keyboardist/vocalist Selwyn Brown never compromise on this long set of songs, not appealing contemporary audience with modern, forced crossover sound. No guest rappers, no fillers, only guitar-oriented old school tunes, based on blues/jazz influences with nice usage of (real!) horns and harmonica that easily refer to their roots reggae era 1978-1982.
