is a four-issue comic book limited series featuring the Marvel Comics character Frank Castle a.k.a. the Punisher. The series was released in 2003 written by Garth Ennis and penciled by Darick Robertson. Ennis sets up the thoroughly plausible premise that Castle became the Punisher long before his family was killed, when he was still an officer in his third tour of duty in Vietnam, through a unique confluence of circumstances wherein he accepted unto himself the reality that he is capable of doing what he did, and that he could probably do it again. In this he is perfectly complemented by the masterful artwork of Darick Robertson, whose depiction of Ennis thoughts and sensibilities, from the extreme violence of the war to the haunting loneliness of soldiers during sombre solitary moments could not have been done any better by anyone else. Certainly Born has earned its place among the most original and well crafted graphic novels in existence.

What do pencils, a feather duster and a plastic trash-bag have in common? To stop a murderous snuff film ring, Frank Castle has to infiltrate a building with a security system so tight that he can’t bring in any weapons. Nothing. Nada. Just his own wits, inventiveness and ruthless efficiency. Oh, and a few cleaning products and office supplies. It’s the at his ruthless best; as you’ve never seen him before -- the bad guys won’t know what hit them. Multiple Bram Stoker Award-winning author Jonathan Maberry (Patient Zero) takes the Punisher into dark territory in this stand-alone tale. --
