Pure Dsd

Hiromi Uehara (上原ひろみ), known as Hiromi, is a jazz composer and pianist born in Hamamatsu, Japan. She is known for her virtuosic technique, energetic live performances and blend of musical genres such as post-bop, progressive rock, classical and fusion in her compositions.

At age 89, Hank Jones is playing as well as any point in his long, celebrated career. He is still constantly challenging himself, teaming up with younger musicians, performing and recording new materials. This disc, simply titled July 6th, is the second part of the Great Jazz Trio, contains more tunes that Jones had never recorded before.

Released in 1963, Quiet Nights was a continuation of the legendary partnership between Miles Davis and Gil Evans, following classics like Miles Ahead (1957), Porgy and Bess (1959), and Sketches of Spain (1960). By the time of Quiet Nights, their collaborative dynamic had begun to shift. The bossa nova wave, led by artists like João Gilberto and Antônio Carlos Jobim, had captured worldwide attention, influencing the album's stylistic direction.

Recorded at Columbia’s famed 30th Street Studio in New York, with George Avakian producing and Harold Chapman at the console, this album captures a band on the brink of greatness, and a leader sharpening the tools that would make Kind of Blue possible just a year later.

It has been said that instrumentalist Bruce Katz has one foot in jazz and the other foot in the blues, but those aren't the only styles that interest the organist/pianist; rock, soul, and gospel are also part of what he does.
