They called it The Paisley Underground. A 1980s, Southern California sound that mixed pure-pop sensibilities with psychedelic overtones, the term was coined by Michael Quercio, leader of one of that scene s biggest bands, The Three O Clock. The Three O Clock eventually signed to I.R.S. Records and even made an LP for Prince s Paisley Park imprint, but it is their early material that is not only adored, but which has never been properly compiled and re-introduced. Until now. The Hidden World Revealed is a 20-track collection from the years 1981-1986. In addition to hits from their tenure on Frontier Records like Jet Fighter and With A Cantaloupe Girlfriend, the CD features rare singles, demos and alternate takes/mixes. It helps tell the story of where the band started (as The Salvation Army) and what they would achieve recording for major labels and opening for bands like R.E.M. on national tours. It s quite a trip.

Talking with the Taxman about Poetry is the third release (second full length album) by Billy Bragg, released in 1986. With production by John Porter and Kenny Jones, Talking with the Taxman about Poetry featured more musicians than Bragg's previous works, which were generally little more than Bragg himself and a guitar. There were two singles released from the album. While "Levi Stubbs' Tears" peaked at #29 in the UK, the follow-up "Greetings To The New Brunette" fell short, only managing #58 a few months later. wikipedia

Like their West Coast contemporaries in Death Cab for Cutie, Rilo Kiley steadily gained traction in indie pop circles throughout the late '90s and early 2000s before the record industry (and public at large) officially took note. Led by former child actors Jenny Lewis (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Blake Sennett (guitar, vocals), the L.A.-based quartet held its first practice in 1998. Bassist Pierre de Reeder and drummer Dave Brock (later replaced by ex-Foundation Lassie member Jason Boesel) completed the lineup, and a weekly residency at the Spaceland nightclub in Silverlake allowed Rilo Kiley to hone its mix of classic pop, country, torch song, and folk. Collection includes: Take Offs and Landings (2001); The Execution of All Things (2002); More Adventurous (2004); Under the Blacklight (2007).

Keep an Eye on the Sky is a 4-CD, 98-song career retrospective box set from American rock group Big Star. It features 52 unreleased tracks: demos, alternate takes and live performances. As well as material from founder member Chris Bell's earlier bands Rock City and Icewater, it includes all titles (in many cases as alternate mixes or demos) from Big Star's first three studio albums, #1 Record, Radio City, and Third/Sister Lovers, and a recording of a 1973 Big Star concert.
