Once, computer game music was a cute joke. In 1984, it became art. The Commodore 64 home computer was the first to contain a full analog synthesizer. A new generation of composers started their musical careers, and computer music was changed forever. "Back In Time" is dedicated to Commodore heroes past and present: Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Ben Daglish, Fred Gray, Tim Follin, Jeroen Tel, David Whittaker, Jonathan Dunn, Charles Deenen, Chris Huelsberg, Bogg, Ratt, Jackal… they made C64 more than a computer: they made it an experience. These CDs are for those who support the rebirth of a computer that surpassed the relatively lowly level of its technology: the rebirth of a computer that never died.

This is an album of Commodore-64 remixes Marcel Donne, all done in the style/sound of classic Jean-Michel Jarre and Vangelis albums. To put it simple, Marcel Donné has taken the melodies from famous C64 music, and mixed it with the sound of old-school Jean-Michel Jarre and Vangelis. A great album for nostalgics of all ages, and especially those who enjoyed Jarre's and Vangelis' classic early albums.

Reyn Ouwehand is an ex-member of the famed "Maniacs of Noise", a C64 composer himself and a successful record producer. Reyn's musical career began with classical piano lessons at a young age. In 1995, Reyn founded Prevue Productions, his own company. He built his first studio and from then on in, his main focus was production work for record companies. Reyn, like so many Commodore 64 musicians and music fans, was inspired by the likes of Rob Hubbard and Martin Galway, and as such, thought it would be a nice idea one day to remake some of the classic tracks. This resulted in the "Nexus 6581" (2000): an album which mixed various game theme styles seamlessly, including the likes of overlooked game themes such as "Deflektor" and "Aztec Challenge": something for everyone…

In the liner notes the band tells us the significance of the name KOLLEKTIV. We "share the same aims and values, not just with regard to music. We do not seperate into soloist and accompanist (rhythm slave). Each musician and each instrument has the same rights. Our pieces aren't individual compositions; they are born out of and grow through creative collaboration. After all, our name is saying : we are our own roadies, manager, technicians, bus driver, record producers and article writers, and three of us share the same birthday." Another important revelation in their liner notes is : "The structure of our music is more simple than usual jazz, instead we pay more attention to sounds and moods. We mainly do improvisations. Even the themes and arranged parts were once improvised."
