"A Song for You" is a 1975 album by The Temptations. It features two R&B #1 hits: "Happy People" (originally intended for recording by its authors, The Commodores), and "Shakey Ground", one of the group's final R&B #1 songs. The album features then-lead singer Dennis Edwards on the title track written by Leon Russell. Also featured are Richard Street and Melvin Franklin on the track "Firefly". This album, while it was initially panned by the Rolling Stone Record Guide, proved its worth, going Gold (selling over 500,000 copies) and winning the 1976 American Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Album. This was also the final album by Eddie Kendricks's replacement Damon Harris, who was let go after this album. He would rejoin his Young Tempts (aka "The Young Vandals") bandmates as Impact.

"Odessa" is the 6th studio album by the Bee Gees. Regarded as the most significant of the group's Sixties albums, it was released as a double vinyl record, initially in an opulent red flocked cover with gold lettering. An ambitious project, originally intended as a concept album on the loss of a fictional ship in 1899, it created tension and disagreements in the band regarding the album's direction. The album was not well received by the public or the music press on release, and led to a decline in the group's fortunes until their disco period in the mid 1970s. Odessa would be the final album for the band's original incarnation, and this was the last album to include guitarist Vince Melouney. In 2009, Reprise Records released a Deluxe remaster of the album, as prepared by Rhino Records, with 3 discs containing, respectively, the album in stereo, the album in mono and selected rarities. The 3rd disc, entitled "Sketches for Odessa" featured demos of the songs plus a vocal take of "With All Nations (International Anthem)" and the previously unissued tracks "Nobody's Someone" and "Pity". This edition restored the red flocking originally found on the LP.

Clifford Coulter was a soul-jazz and blues pianist who gradually moved more into urban R&B. His early recordings for the ABC label in the early '70s were full of a bright, sweet sound and were recommended listening for anybody interested in the funkier side of soul-jazz. This disc, cut in 1980 and produced by none other than Bill Withers, is a very commercial and radio-friendly set of funky soul. Coulter's writing and arranging are nice and tight and virtually full of singles - it is a wonder he didn't score any with this. Music was as fickle a business coming out of the disc era as it is in the 21st century. Coulter's sound, while contemporary, is rooted in the soul balladry of an earlier time.

"Wild and Peaceful" is the 4th studio album, and 6th album of new material released by the funk band Kool & the Gang, and is their commercial breakthrough album. It also reached #33 on the Pop charts, making it the band's first entry into that chart's Top 40. The album spawned the band's first 3 Top 10 singles. "Funky Stuff" reached #5 R&B/#29 Pop. The hugely popular track "Jungle Boogie" soared to #2 R&B and #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Hollywood Swinging" topped the Billboard Hot Soul Singles in June 1974 while reaching #6 Pop. The latter two singles both sold over a million copies and were certified Gold by the RIAA. The album itself was also certified Gold.

Released as part of BGP's Jazz & Funk Classics series, "Special Things" was Pleasure's final album for Fantasy Records and was a continuation of the futuristic funk sound that had dominated their successful Future Now album. Containing two R&B hit singles, Yearnin Burnin and Now You Choose Me , the album was a Top 30 hit in the R&B album listings. The Portland, Oregon group demonstrate that they were able to develop their funk sound for the 1980s, carrying on from the success they had enjoyed with numbers such as Glide, Ghettos Of The Mind and Joyous.

Ace Spectrum was an R&B, soul and disco musical group that was popular in the mid-1970s. Based in New York City the group consisted of Rudy Gay Sr., Elliot Isaac, Henry "Easy" Zant, Aubrey "Troy" Johnson, and, on their final album, Frederick G. Duff and Lawrence Coley. Zant, (also known as Edward "Easy" Zant), was not only a member but he also managed the group. Gay, Isaac, Zant and Johnson began collaboration as a group in 1966. Don't Send Nobody Else, written by Ashford & Simpson, was their biggest single. From their Tony Sylvester-produced debut album, it peaked at #57 on Billboard's Hot 100 while finding its way to the Top 20 on the R&B Singles chart. Their single Keep Holdin' On was released as a 12-inch single, and heavily promoted by their record label at disco clubs. Another single Live And Learn with lead vocals by Frederick, reached position #35 on the Dance Music/Club Play Singles chart. Their first two albums saw chart action. "Inner Spectrum" attained position #28 on the R&B Albums chart, and "Low Rent Rendezvous" saw action on the Billboard 200 (#138), as well as on R&B Albums (#35). Patrick Adams produced and arranged the group's 1976 recordings, but consequential success eluded them.
