King’s College Choir are the most famous choir in the world. This 29-CD set of the complete Argo recordings celebrates David Willcocks’ tenure from 1957-1973 and includes some of the most beautiful choral music sung with the choir’s trademark richness and purity of sound. Six albums are released on CD for the first time – David Willcocks’ 1964 Festival of Lessons & Carols and Tye Masses and four albums from Boris Ord, Willcocks’ predecessor. Also includes works by Bach, Tallis, Haydn and others.
On July 20, 2018 after a nearly 10 year-long hiatus, Jan Hammer - whose extensive body of work has spanned the musical spectrum from jazz to prog to classical to pop - will release Seasons Pt. 1, a compilation of existing musical sketches that Jan developed into full length compositions and selections that were created just for this album. Why the delay? Laughing, Hammer emphatically says, “It’s about time.”
“I’ve actually been thinking about releasing something new for 6 or 7 years,” he continues. “This is what happens - musical ideas had accumulated in my head over time until I suddenly realized that I had more than enough for an album.” In fact, Hammer says that he’s already at work developing what now only exist as sketches for a follow up album, which will be aptly titled Seasons Pt 2…
This amazing set compiles all existing Birdland broadcasts by the Charles Mingus Jazz Workshop of 1961-62. These long unavailable broadcasts feature such important musicians as Booker Ervin, Yusef Lateef, Jimmy Knepper, Pepper Adams, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Charles McPherson, Jaki Byard, Toshiko Akiyoshi andDannie Richmond. Among the many highlights is the drumless broadcast of May 12, 1962, which presents two bassists on Mingus’ only existing live version of “Ysabel’s Table Dance”, from Tijuana Moods. Mingus is the piano soloist on two broadcasts. This music has only been previously available on separate long out of print releases with inferior sound quality.
