Fire Records are thrilled to announce that they have signed one of their favourite bands, Australian psychedelic pop outfit Blank Realm. Their new album Go Easy initially came out on a limited edition, vinyl only run via the awesome tastemaker label Siltbreeze and in Australia on the equally wonderful Bedroom Suck, but now through Fire it will be getting the widely distributed release it deserves in March, on CD and Pink 180gram 12″ LP. Blank Realm are one of the most popular bands in the booming Australian underground and have morphed in to a modern day Royal Trux, as Pitchfork described them in their review, they create: “a bluesy waltz in which Sarah Spencer’s snarl hits Jennifer Herrema levels.”

Black Mountain rises from within the Vancouver-based fiefdom of Stephen McBean, the hazy-toned singer and meandering songwriter who also heads up Pink Mountaintops. Both groups languish in a fog of psychedelia and sexual release. But while the latter opts for arty avant folk, Black Mountain lives up to its name with a heavier foundation. The self-titled debut on Jagjaguwar (its eight-song count and subdued cover art are a dark mirror to Pink Mountaintops) busts open half-lidded Velvet Underground fetishisms with squalls of Blue Cheer guitar, and further channels the heady sounds of the late '60s with a moodily dwelling organ.

The second album by Country Teasers, scottish art punk band formed in 1993. Early Country Teasers albums were characterised by literate, scathingly satirical lyrics and discordant, repetitive sound – like William S. Burroughs leading Joy Division or The Fall through a setlist of art-damaged country and western songs. Later Teasers releases branched out to "abuse not only country & western but every other genre they can get their hands on, including rap, goth, punk, folk, disco, electronic, and noise," leading to comparisons with other home-recording deconstructionists like Royal Trux, Butthole Surfers and Ween.

The Bristol-based four-piece are the loudest, most abrasive band on Sonic Cathedral to date, and one who make a mockery of those articles that crop up every now and again asking if guitar music is dead. If guitars are supposed to be dead, wrote Drowned In Sound in their review of 2013's Hunger EP, it's probably because Spectres have killed them.

Debut full length from London based 3 piece originally hailing from New Zealand (Matthew Hyland), Germany (Anja Büchele) and Romania (Dennis Debitsev) Precious Waste In Our Wake (full title written nowhere: “The Fucking Terrible Receding Shapes, We Shed Precious Waste In Our Wake”) is an endlessly beautiful, dense and chaotic crawl through so many forms it can be difficult to ascertain what is actually at play. Ostensibly a ‘rock’ band carved from the same plank as previous outfits Philosopie Queen, The Mean Streaks, etc Triple Negative have shaken a somewhat complacent London with their wildly original blend of chaos and beauty rolling around a maelstrom of politics, spite and humour. Bloodclaat Orange, Fatna Bent Lhoucine, The Associates, Aby Ngana Diop, Royal Trux, Brigitte Fontaine/Areski, and Babyfather are all somehow wished into the scenario, either suggestively, explicitly quoted or manifesting as some malformed degree of inspiration.

For fans of Juicy J, Beck, Kool Keith, David Crosby, Andrew WK, Sweet, DJ Screw, Lee "Scratch" Perry, "Half Speed Mastered" is unreal album of disparate influences and stream of consciousness pop cult lyrics. Aleister X has been releasing underground and digital release since the mid 2000s, but "Half Speed Mastered" is his full length debut and the best thing the performer has done yet. Confusing but intriguing on first listens, this album grows on you and gets its hooks into your brain like nothing else. Bouncy pop hooks meet chopped n screwed beats and big picture lyrics, all with a seedy celebration of the Los Angeles vibe. Give the songs a chance and you will not be disappointed.
