Shostakovich's Preludes and Fugues are considered one of the most profound and technically demanding collections of piano music of the 20th century. This masterpiece of harmonic exploration and emotional depth comprises 24 pairs of preludes and fugues and was dedicated to the great Soviet Bach interpreter Tatiana Nikolayeva. Among numerous other honors, Italian pianist Sofia Sacco was a City Music Foundation Artist for 2024-2026, a Fellow at the Royal Academy of Music (both in London), and an Artist in Residence at the Società del Quartetto di Bergamo. A video recording in collaboration with Fly on the Wall Productions will be released alongside the album.

This is the 1971 soundtrack to the film Sacco E Vanzetti composed by Ennio Morricone. It also features four tracks featuring American folk singer Joan Baez, including the hit song "Here's To You". This is the 2005 remaster with a number of bonus tracks, released by GDM.

Während einer Razzia im italienischen Viertel von Boston werden am 5. Mai 1920 die beiden Einwanderer Nicola Sacco und Bartolomeo Vanzetti festgenommen. Ihnen wird vorgeworfen, bei einem bewaffneten Raubüberfall zwei Menschen erschossen zu haben. Beide sind bekennende Anarchisten, die aber die Anwendung von Gewalt ablehnen. Die Gerichtsverhandlung artet zum politschen Schauprozeß, in den sich höchste US-Instanzen einmischen. Alle Versuche, eine Neuaufnahme des Prozesses zu beantragen oder zumindest eine Begnadigung zu erreichen, scheitern. Trotz weltweiter Proteste werden Sacco und Vanzetti am 23. August 1927 auf dem elektrischen Stuhl hingerichtet.
