Album singular and rare by Brazilian guitarist and composer Baden Powell de Aquino (Rio de Janeiro, 1937-2000). The CD is a reissue merging two independent studio albums, 'Samba triste' (1975) and 'Tristeza' (1976). From the latter has been deleted the song 'Así danço samba'. It seems that the topic 'Casa velha' is taken from another recording session (from the album of the same title). In all these recordings, of which 7 are works of his own creation, Baden amply demonstrates that musicality and creative and performing imagination are even more important than the sheer technical virtuosity on guitar.
Another album of the collection dedicated to the music of ballroom dancing entitled 'The Steps Ballroom Dance Collection', published in the 90's in Holland by the TRC Music label. This CD is recorded as others completely in digital system. The album is interpreted as the rest of the series for the 'Ray Hamilton Ballroom Orchestra' and has a repertoire of 15 songs dedicated to the samba dance.
“Happily, Byrne followed up with this equally revelatory collection of contemporary samba, this time featuring singers even more obscure to North American ears. The highly percussive samba is Brasil's national music, at times furiously rhythmic yet still capable of sustaining a rich songwriting tradition. As befits a "peoples" music (which reaches a yearly apotheosis in the wildly competitive samba schools of Carnaval), the melodies are tougher, the lyrics earthier than the romantic pop music that people usually associate with this most musical of nations. Once more we must thank David Byrne for introducing us to great singers like Clara Nunes, reigning samba queen till her untimely death in 1983, as well as the equally celebrated Beth Carvalho and Martinho Da Vila.”
Album published in Spain in 1987 by Divucsa in the 'Perfil' collection, which he dedicated to collecting compilations of what they called Gold Orchestras. In this case the album gathers two separate recordings in two medley tracks of music from Brazil performed by the orchestra of Everaldo Jobim and his School of Samba.
