Let’s be honest, live albums are often bland, the songs faded versions of opulent studio-productions. This one is different. The songwriter from Texas and her sideman grow together during the concert into groove-monsters. Her 4-string guitar and his steel-string/dobro drive songs like 'All Your Love (Turned to Passion)' irresistibly onward and Sara growls, squeaks and squeals with a truly high-end sound. Huge.
The music was superb, and Gunther Pauler has definitely gotten a good handle on the whole multichannel aspect of recording. I wasn’t incredibly impressed with his first venture into surround sound – it just seemed that too much was going on in the surround channels, but both of these hi-res discs provide a convincing degree of realism, very much on par with the excellent stereo-only SACDs that Stockfisch initially released. (…) Regardless of whether you choose the SACD or Blu-ray option, trust me, you won’t be disappointed. I was both thrilled and surprised by how good the music sounded via my Blu-ray player, and it gives me great hope that some form of mainstream hi-res music will continue into the future. Very highly recommended!
The legendary concert from 2001 at which Sara K. and Günter Pauler met for the first time - and the years of collaboration began. Sara is accompanied on five tracks by Chris Jones, whose encounter also resulted in wonderful recordings…
These 24-carat gold CD, characterized by exceptionally clear record. This is the result of the use and NoNOISE "SASS" (Sound Analysis and Synthesis System).
On July 16, 1999, the tenth anniversary of the death of Herbert von Karajan, the Berliner Philharmoniker paid tribute to their late maestro in his home town of Salzburg. In a live shooting from the imposing Salzburg Cathedral, Claudio Abbado conducted an all- Mozart programme, honouring his predecessor both by the careful selection of the music and the singers. The Berliner Philharmoniker, conducted by Claudio Abbado, performed Mozart's Requiem in D minor, KV 626, among other works. Soprano Rachel Harnisch appeared as the soloist on the two complementing arias Betrachte dies mein Herz und frage mich and Laudate Dominum Featuring soprano Karita Mattila, contralto Sara Mingardo, tenor Michael Schade and bass baritone Bryn Terfel as soloists of the Requiem. A performance that in every respect met Karajan's own high artistic standards. Lovingly restored and carefully brought to HD, this unique performance of the Berliner Philharmoniker at Salzburg Cathedral is now finally available on Blu-ray Disc.
The celebrations of the 40th anniversary of "Sotto il segno dei pesci", among the album-symbol of the discography of Antonello Venditti, seem to never end. Started in September last year with the release of the unpublished "Sfiga" and the box set "Sotto il segno dei pesci - 40° anniversario", the celebrations went on with the concert-event at the Arena di Verona (which among the other things saw the Roman singer-songwriter find his friend Francesco De Gregori on stage - they debuted together, in 1972, with the album "Theorius Campus", then over the years removals, digs and rapprochements), with the appearance in Sanremo as guest and with a tour in the sports halls. Now comes "Sotto il segno dei pesci - The anniversary tour (Live)" - the live record of the forty-year album - forgive the pun.
Right from the start Chesky Records had a sound. David Chesky set out to make “aural photographs” of each session, capturing as much of the sound of being there as the technology allowed, continually pushing it forward. Every note of every session was recorded “live,” there were no overdubs, no fixing it in the mix.
