The strange life of Austrian painter Egon Schiele, one of the fathers of expressionism, is chronicled in this dramatic biography. He began his career during his stint as a soldier in WWI. He gained notoriety for his pornographic nudes and was eventually arrested for creating them. At the same time, his first love dies, and his next lover dumps him. His paintings finally become popular at the war's end. Unfortunately, he dies of a strange disease before he can enjoy his success.

Egon Schiele Exzess und Bestrafung, also known as Egon Schiele Excess and Punishment (English) and Egon Schiele, enfer et passion (French) is a 1981 film based on the life of the Austrian artist Egon Schiele. It stars Mathieu Carriere as Schiele with Jane Birkin as his artist muse Wally and Christine Kaufman as his wife Edith and Christina Van Eyck as her sister. The film is essentially a depiction of obsession and its constituents of sex, alcohol and uncontrolled emotions.Set in Austria during the Great War, Schiele is depicted as the agent of social change leading to destruction of those he loves and ultimately of himself.

Prendete con le pinze quanto sto per dire. C'è stato un momento, a metà scaletta di questo album d'esordio, in cui ho iniziato a pensare che il concept di questa formazione torinese potesse rifarsi in qualche modo ai Marlene Kuntz e al binomio Godano-Tesio, per quel peculiare distillato di sferaggliate chitarristiche da scantinato e sofisticatezza quasi letteraria delle parole. Poi, beninteso, la chitarra di Scarcella non insegue i feedback alla Thurston Moore e i riferimenti di La Greca vanno probabilmente in altre direzioni. In questo senso Le Schiene di Schiele si auto-definiscono, non del tutto a torto, "post-alternative", ma se proprio volessimo continuare a cercare un riferimento a questo sound si potrebbe deviare lo sguardo di appena qualche centimetro dalla loro stessa Torino, verso quella tradizione a base di rumore e danzereccio che rimonta ai primi anni '2000 dei Subsonica (soprattutto ascoltando pezzi come Martini Dry o Caino).

The final years of the short life of Egon Schiele, the Austrian expressionist painter are chronicled against the backdrop of the final years of the Habsburg rule. The story begins around 1912 as Schiele (Mathieu Carriere) and his mistress and artistic muse Wally (Jane Birkin) are befriended by an obsessed teenage girl (Nina Fallenstein) who has run away to be with Schiele. Subsequently Schiele is imprisoned on the grounds that he has behaved in a sexually improper way towards the young woman.The young woman falsely accuses Schiele and although he denies the charge he is imprisoned.
