Marvel's new ongoing does devote a lot of pages to Nick Fury--but then he seems to be a central character. After the four-part initial story arc, one can readily settle down to the fact that Brubaker and his creative support team are in fine form. But then they throw a curve in issue #5 which leaves a lot of questions hanging. Well we shall certainly know whether or not this route is intended or not in the upcoming issues... Save for the current issue #6, the first five issue are all Minutemen scans, with multiple variant covers in one RAR archive.

The are a fictional Marvel Comics superhero team formed and headed by the ageless, unflappable Nick Fury. Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, the characters were introduced in the Secret Invasion Marvel storyline issue of Mighty Avengers #13, and debuted as a team in Secret Invasion #3, both published in 2008. On February 4, 2009, the team was launched in their own ongoing series. This series is co-plotted by Bendis with Jonathan Hickman writing and is one of the titles launched as part of the Dark Reign storyline. Current issue #9 is part 3 of the 4-part story arc, "God of Fear, God of War" and as stated in a note in the introduction, the story is supposed to take place the events depicted in Dark Reign: The List - Secret Warriors--released, as usual thanks to the convoluted minds of Marvel editors last October 7, 2009. That's one reason why I do not like crossovers. Still, the action scenes by both writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Alessandro Vitti rival the best any creative team has to offer, and Hickman's forceful dialogue and spot-on characterizations make this title consistently stand out among the best of Marvel. IGN gave this one an "Impressive" 8.3 out of 10 rating. I believe the reviewer was being nitpicky.
