The realms of comics and role-playing games (RPG's) have intersected frequently over the years, enjoying an interesting dichotomy in their different approaches to storytelling. In RPGs, the creators focus the majority of their energies on the complexities of world building, leaving the creations of characters to the players. Comics, it could be argued, tell stories using the exact opposite method, developing fully realized characters, while providing glimpses of the worlds they inhabit and allowing the reader to fill in the blank spaces on the map. represents one of the finer RPG translations achieved in comics, since DC’s surprisingly cool Dragonlance series of the late eighties, bridging the dichotomy between the different storytelling media by embracing the methods of both. A rousing, character-driven adventure story set in a beautifully rendered alternate universe by a well-clicking creative team. The 10th Legion of Super-Heroes volume in DC's invaluable Archive Editions series catches the Legion in a period of transition in the early 1970s.The LSH was relegated to seven-page stories in the back of Superboy's comic (and not even every issue), and because that's not the ideal format to cover 30 heroes, most of the stories concentrate on a couple Legionnaires. Soon the Legion became popular enough that the title eventually became Superboy Starring the Legion of Super-Heroes, and the issues in this volume do contain a number of milestones of Legion lore. Wildfire makes his debut as an applicant named ERG-1 in issue #195, Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel get married in issue #200, and then there were the sexy new costumes, including Saturn Girl's pink bikini and Phantom Girl's bell bottoms. Kathleen Turner plays a writer of adventure stories, Joan Wilder, who has been having trouble selling her works of late because they aren't remotely believable. The basic problem is that the mousy Joan has never had any real adventure in her life. All this changes when she receives a frantic phone call from her sister, whose is being held prisoner by evil art dealers in Colombia. It seems that sis has mailed Joan a map leading to a valuable treasure. Nasty but cowardly Ralph (Danny DeVito), cousin of the principal villain (Zack Norman), has been assigned to claim the map from Joan. But upon arriving in Colombia, Joan and Ralph learn that others of a more homicidal bent are also after the map. Joan is rescued by soldier of fortune Jack Colton (Michael Douglas), who isn't quite clear about his stake in the proceedings….
