Noise Sources in Turbulent Shear Flows: Fundamentals and Applications

Noise Sources in Turbulent Shear Flows: Fundamentals and Applications by Roberto Camussi
English | PDF | 2013 | 453 Pages | ISBN : 3709114578 | 9.5 MB

The articles in this volume present the state-of-the-art in noise prediction, modeling and measurement. The articles are partially based on class notes provided during the course `Noise sources in turbulent shear flows', given at CISM on April 2011. The first part contains general concepts of aero acoustics, including vortex sound theory and acoustic analogies, in the second part particular emphasis is put into arguments of interest for engineers and relevant for aircraft design: jet noise, airfoil broadband noise, boundary layer noise (including interior noise and its control) and the concept of noise sources, their theoretical modeling and identification in turbulent lows. All these arguments are treated extensively with the inclusion of many practical examples and references to engineering applications.

Kinetic Theory of Gases in Shear Flows: Nonlinear Transport

Kinetic Theory of Gases in Shear Flows: Nonlinear Transport by Vicente Garzó
English | PDF | 2003 | 353 Pages | ISBN : 9048163471 | 31.1 MB

The kinetic theory of gases as we know it dates to the paper of Boltzmann in 1872. The justification and context of this equation has been clarified over the past half century to the extent that it comprises one of the most complete examples of many-body analyses exhibiting the contraction from a microscopic to a mesoscopic description.
Heat, Bearings, and Lubrication: Engineering Analysis of Thermally Coupled Shear Flows and Elastic Solid Boundaries

Heat, Bearings, and Lubrication: Engineering Analysis of Thermally Coupled Shear Flows and Elastic Solid Boundaries by Ralph A. Burton
English | PDF | 2000 | 226 Pages | ISBN : 0387987983 | 16.3 MB

This book is about failure mechanisms in bearings and seals when high speeds or loads cause significant frictional heating. It is about how to predict and avoid these kinds of failures. The text is intended for the designer and mechanical engineer responsible for high-performance machinery. The subject matter is analytical and interdisciplinary. It incorporates transient heat flow, thermal deformation, and the fluid mechanics of thin films.

Rheology and Non-Newtonian Fluids

Rheology and Non-Newtonian Fluids by Fridtjov Irgens
English | PDF (True) | 2014 | 192 Pages | ISBN : 3319010522 | 6.3 MB

This book gives a brief but thorough introduction to the fascinating subject of non-Newtonian fluids, their behavior and mechanical properties. After a brief introduction of what characterizes non-Newtonian fluids in Chapter 1 some phenomena characteristic of non-Newtonian fluids are presented in Chapter 2. The basic equations in fluid mechanics are discussed in Chapter 3. Deformation kinematics, the kinematics of shear flows, viscometric flows, and extensional flows are the topics in Chapter 4. Material functions characterizing the behavior of fluids in special flows are defined in Chapter 5. Generalized Newtonian fluids are the most common types of non-Newtonian fluids and are the subject in Chapter 6. Some linearly viscoelastic fluid models are presented in Chapter 7. In Chapter 8 the concept of tensors is utilized and advanced fluid models are introduced. The book is concluded with a variety of 26 problems. Solutions to the problems are ready for instructors.
