In 2003, actress/photographer Kris Carr was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. The resulting home movies, as well as interviews with others undergoing treatment, provide the basis for "Crazy Sexy Cancer," a more provocative title than the documentary that follows. It's easy to empathize with Carr's ordeal, and a degree of self-indulgence is certainly understandable given the circumstances. That said, the alternating moments of pretentiousness and heavy-handedness are much less easily forgiven.

Stones in Exile is a 2010 documentary film about the recording of the 1972 The Rolling Stones album Exile on Main St. Directed by Stephen Kijak, it premiered at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. It had its worldwide premiere on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Fallon announced on his show that he would mark the re-release of the album with a week's worth of musicians performing songs from the album. The final night of the week, he held the premiere.

While the lead singers in rock, pop, and R&B are the ones who get the glory, knowledgeable music fans will tell you the backing vocalists often add the touches that make a performance truly memorable, and though many backup singers have the respect of their peers in the music business, they're all but unknown to the average listener. Twenty Feet From Stardom pays homage to some of these unsung heroes, including Darlene Love (the un-credited lead voice on some of Phil Spector's most memorable productions of the 1960s)
