A descendant of Erik Satie and a student of Terry Riley, Jordan De La Sierra adhered to the “pure sound with shape” school of piano tuning, his notes unconfined by Bach’s “well tempered” Western tuning. Instead, De La Sierra’s work incorporated the point of view of nature, what La Monte Young called “well tuned,” in which notes are left to reverberate to the full extent of their potential, at varying lengths, to be bent by their player’s improvisation and textural sonic explorations.

John Denver is one of the most successful and best loved recording artists of the 20th century. His easy going manner, fine voice, superb songwriting and dedication to environmental issues all combined to build a huge global fan base that has continued to grow since his untimely death in a plane crash in 1997. This superb 5-disc set is the definitive John Denver DVD release. There are three complete live performances with full band from Australia in 1977, Japan in 1981 and England in 1986. These are complemented by a solo acoustic performance from Japan in 1984 and his performances at Farm Aid from 1985, 1987 & 1990. The final disc has two hour long documentaries made by John Denver, his 1990 Earth Day program about environmental issues and his 1972 show about the Bighorn sheep of his beloved Rocky Mountains.

If you only know John Anderson from his 1983 novelty crossover hit "Swingin'," you're missing out: In the '80s and early '90s, he was real-deal country, with a backwoods Florida twang and a completely unique delivery—you could never predict if his timbre was going to swoop or take flight. Anderson fell off radio playlists but has remained a favorite of other artists, and an impressive roster of them has lined up for a tribute album produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach for his Easy Eye Sound label.

"The Wraith" is an rare, out of print soundtrack from the film of the same name from 1986 with "Charlie Sheen", "Nick Cassavetes" and "Sherilyn Fenn". In Germany, the film was called "The Interceptor". The album contains tracks from"Ozzy Osbourne", "Bonnie Tyler" and "Stan Bush" and other great rock artists who did other music for soundtracks, as well as having very successful careers. I have included extra tracks that appeared in the film, but did not feature on the soundtrack. This is a great album and enough to put you in the mood for rocking all night or driving.

Bing Crosby was, without doubt, the most popular and influential media star of the first half of the 20th century. The undisputed best-selling artist until well into the rock era (with over half a billion records in circulation), the most popular radio star of all time, and the biggest box-office draw of the 1940s, Crosby dominated the entertainment world from the Depression until the mid-'50s, and proved just as influential as he was popular. Unlike the many vocal artists before him, Crosby grew up with radio, and his intimate bedside manner was a style perfectly suited to emphasize the strengths of a medium transmitted directly into the home.

African musicians seem to have an unquenchable fascination for the music of Latin America, especially Cuba. And why not? Much of what makes modern Latin music so irresistible came from Africa in the first place. When the first waves of African rhythms, reconstituted in the Caribbean, returned home on radios and records, Africans - especially in West and central Africa - received them with great enthusiasm. Staid dance bands that replicated European music soon began to swing as Caribbean accents settled in their rhythm sections…
