History by the Numbers is an energetic, fast-paced series that takes a global dive into the extraordinary and often overlooked numbers that have created our world’s history. Each episode delves into the numbers and over-the-top stats behind a different subject such as the massive growth of the global fast food empire, the wealth and bloodshed of the world’s top crime bosses, the herculean numbers behind Mount Everest, and the lives of the richest people on earth.

Contrived excess is rarely as entertaining as it is in the ironically titled "Just Another Love Story," a furiously overheated romantic thriller from Danish writer-helmer Ole Bornedal. Basically "While You Were Sleeping" remade as a Scandinavian potboiler, this noirish mistaken-identity meller is more impressive for its stamina and frenzied style than for its emotional impact, which is minimal. Still, vibrant visuals and the relentlessness of Bornedal's narrative machinery should command widespread arthouse attention.

Set four years after the conclusion of the previous film. Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif), arrives mysteriously in the mail to the family home of paraplegic Nica (Fiona Dourif) and her mother, Sarah. Sarah, not knowing who sent Chucky, throws him in the garbage. Later that night, Nica hears Sarah screaming in pain and finds her dead from a self-inflicted stab…

Over the course of his varied career, Koreyoshi Kurahara made meticulous noirs, jazzy juvenile-delinquency pictures, and even nature films. His free-form approach to moviemaking was perfectly suited to the radical spirit of the 1960s, when he was one of the biggest hit makers working at the razzle-dazzle, youth-oriented Nikkatsu studios. The five films collected here hail from that era of the Japanese New Wave, and encompass breathless teen escapades, cruel crime stories, a Yukio Mishima adaptation, and even a Hollywood-inspired romantic comedy.
