Capitol/UMe will issue a 50th anniversary edition of The Beach Boys‘ 1966 album Pet Sounds this June that will feature the much-delayed blu-ray audio and four CDs of content including previously unreleased live recordings. The five-disc Collector’s Edition is presented as a hardcover book and features the remastered original album in stereo and mono as well as session outtakes, alternate mixes and said live recordings.

The Pet Sounds Sessions is a 4-CD box set by the American rock band the Beach Boys. Released on November 4, 1997, by Capitol Records, it compiles tracks from the group's 11th studio album Pet Sounds (1966) and its 1965–66 recording sessions. The entire album is included in its original mono mix, as well as a specially-created digital stereo mix. The set also contains instrumental tracks, vocals-only tracks, alternate mixes, and edited highlights from the recording sessions for many of the album's songs, along with several tracks not included on the album. The box set was nominated for Best Historical Album at the Grammy Awards of 1999. In 2011, it was followed by The Smile Sessions, a similar compilation devoted to the recording of the Beach Boys' unfinished Smile project.

The question of whether or not Pet Sounds is one of the greatest pop music albums of all time isn’t tied specifically to Capitol deciding to release a 50th anniversary edition. That point is supported by the fact that millions of people still enjoy the album.

The Beach Boys unearthed more archival material, including dozens of previously unreleased songs, with their two new retrospective sets, 1967 – Sunshine Tomorrow 2: The Studio Sessions and Live Sunshine – 1967.

This DVD-Audio disc is two sided. The DVD-Audio side contains lossless, high-resolution multi-format audio, while the DVD-Video side provides Dolby Digital, DTS, and stereo PCM for listeners without DVD-Audio playback capabilities. Featuring the complete album in Stereo, Mono and 5.1 Surround Sound plus promo footage and videos, photo gallery, discography and many more. It is an amazing DVD-A complete with an excellent restoration and spatial mix. Being loaded with extras, everyone will appreciate this album after giving it a thorough listen.

Leggo My Ego was a 3CD Beach Boys bootleg box set featuring outtakes from the Pet Sounds recording sessions in 1966, during a time when fans wanted the official thing. It had been rumored for years but nothing was happening so the bootleggers beat Capitol. This was released by Spank Records, part of the Vigotone family of labels.
